Marketing Operations Intern

Summary
Shades is seeking self-motivated college students to join its Marketing Operations team covering the growth of Shades on the campus of Stanford University. This position works closely with the company's head of digital marketing, as well as the company's co-founders, who include former leaders from Google and GitHub. We have been backed by some of the most important investors in the world.
While some basic competency with modern business software and social media technology is assumed, a major goal of this unpaid internship is to train and expose students to both influencer marketing and the marketing operations of a contemporary, Silicon Valley technology startup. There's room to work on a number of different things and to tailor aspects of the internship to your particular goals and interests.
As part of this role, you'll make creative efforts in your community (whether in-person on campus, or online), and will drive downloads of our app, using whatever marketing tactics and ideas you can think of. Along the way, Shades will support you with training, guidance, and materials as needed.
You'll be the face of Shades on your campus or in your community, positioning yourself for a potential full-time job down the road as our product undergoes rapid growth as the new way to consume news.
Company description
Shades is a high growth, VC-backed startup, and the first news app made for today's generation. Our company mission is to unlock the potential of online information, and to create a news source that reflects this generation's potential, perspectives, and positivity.
It's impossible to keep up with the range of perspectives that the internet makes available. Shades collects the different takes on everything that's going on so that you can stay informed: no provocation, no validation, no agenda.
You can download the Shades app at . In our early beta testing, we've seen that high school and college students love Shades the most -- it's a new way to follow the news, without having to depend entirely on social media.
Role description
As the face of Shades on your campus or in your community, you will be in charge of maximizing awareness for the product, and getting as many people to download it as possible -- by working with a small team of fellow students, working hand-in-hand with the Shades co-founding team to brainstorm ideas and put them into action, and using your hustle and creativity to go the extra mile. While the role is remote - you can do your work anywhere and anytime - you will be needed on Stanford's campus to assist in on campus events and initiatives.
Responsibilities will change based on the specifics of your campus, but will likely include:
- Managing campus influencer campaigns
- Helping create and establish team strategy, goals, and work roadmap
- Work as a liaison to campus clubs and organizations that want to partner with Shades
- Shadow the Digital Marketing team and contribute to their digital and social efforts
- Host on campus engagements, events, and giveaways
- Managing the Shades community - not just in terms of growing and engaging our community, but also thinking creatively about GenZ, media consumption, and the future of online information
- Collaborating with other interns across the country
- This is a remote, self-paced, part-time internship role. You can complete is at your own pace during the school year, with a minimum commitment of 8 hours/week. Shades will provide necessary equipment for you as needed, based on the ideas and plans that you want to enact.
Duration and follow-on opportunities
This internship will last for 12 weeks. Although it's an unpaid position now, if you do a great job, you'll have a chance later to work with Shades in a full-time capacity.
Qualifications
- You're currently an undergraduate student at a college/university in the United States
- You're confident and charismatic, and are very well connected at your school with a wide circle of friends
- You have a strong ability to work independently and remotely
- You're very outgoing and are confident in approaching people out of the blue to ask them questions for the videos you'll be making
- You're creative and aren't afraid to put bold ideas into action
- You are very organized and can manage projects with lots of moving pieces
What is *not* required
We don't require any previous professional experience, and we don't require you to have a certain GPA or test scores or a resume loaded with amazing extracurriculars. We don't care what your major is. We want to find people who have a lot of hustle, heart, creativity, organization, work ethic, and charisma -- people who can help spread the word about Shades.
