Position Title:
Public Lands Intern - Seasonal
Job Description:
This exciting Fall semester internship will largely focus on the Salt Lake City Public Lands Department's work within Warm Springs and North Gateway Parks, including design, historical, and public engagement work with local, Native American, and Pacific Islander communities. The incumbent will work closely with the Warm Springs and North Gateway Parks project manager within the Department's Planning & Design Division. The Division is made up of landscape architects and public lands planners working on park planning, funding, and capital project implementation
Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern's city supervisor.
Warm Springs Park Landscape Architect Internship (5-10 hours a week, September to December, 2024 (14 weeks).

TYPICAL DUTIES:
  • Performs research activities by utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate data.
  • Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Complies with city and department policies and procedures.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Assists with preparing for targeted engagement events with the Native American community.
  • Helps to capture Warm Springs Park Native American stories/history.
  • Helps writing the Native American History at Warm Springs.
  • Helps write interpretative signs about Hawaiian and Pacific Islander presence.
  • Identifies plants for Indigenous medicinal gardens.
  • Attends and provides feedbackin regular project design meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must have good computer skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Moderate physical effort, comfortable working conditions, and handling of light weights. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required. Subject to extended exposure to computer visual display terminals
