INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW The Outreach Intern advances the mission of the Rape Recovery Center to empower primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence by providing education and outreach to increase awareness and knowledge of services, sexual violence causes, and impact throughout Salt Lake and Tooele County. They will also assist with outreach initiatives that are culturally and developmentally appropriate to the audience and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts. This includes a focus on targeted outreach to communities that are overrepresented in experiencing sexual violence but less likely to seek services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Increase knowledge of Rape Recovery Center's mission and services, the dynamics of sexual violence, causes and consequences throughout Salt Lake and Tooele County. Increase knowledge of the Rape Recovery Center through grassroots outreach, presentations, tours, workshops, tabling, distribution of flyers and written materials, and virtual content. Create public education materials in various languages "intentionally inclusive of underserved and marginalized populations." Outreach and public education materials will target increasing knowledge of counseling, support groups, and victim/survivor advocacy services. Represent the Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner. Show confidence in the knowledge base and people skills. Review, understand, and comply with Rape Recovery Center personnel policies and practices. Work with RRC staff, volunteers, and community partners in a collaborative, respectful fashion that further strengthens the relationship RRC has with those agencies and individuals in Salt Lake and Tooele County. Periodically evaluate materials for cultural and developmental appropriateness, inclusivity, accuracy, and recent research and changes in best practices. Collaborate with relevant internal teams to create traditional and social media content focusing on the services of the Rape Recovery Center. Provide crisis intervention, case management, referrals, and support to sexual violence survivors while representing the Rape Recovery Center at public programming. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Working towards an associate degree or bachelor's degree in public health, communications, public administration, social work, human services, sociology, or related field. Outstanding communication skills Ability to work well with---and inspire confidence in---with multiple stakeholders Excellence in balancing various responsibilities Demonstrated project management, public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills. * * DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated knowledge of Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Programs Demonstrated knowledge about the feminist multicultural approach. Understanding of micro, mezzo, and macro systems and their impact on survivors. Proven working with vulnerable populations (LGBTQI+, Homeless, Pacific Islanders, American Indian/Native American, undocumented immigrants). Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish. * * CONDITIONS OF INTERNSHIP OFFER The intern must complete all new hire paperwork by the end of the day on the first workday. The intern must complete a criminal background check. Instructions on obtaining the background check will be provided by the operations team. Part of this process requires uploading a state-issued ID an d scheduling an appointment with the Department of Public Safety for physical fingerprints to be processed. Please note a 2-3 week turnaround time as fingerprint appointments (subject to COVID safety protocols as determined by DPS) are not immediately available. Employees/Staff Members of the RRC cannot be alone with clients until the background check is received and reviewed for risk. The intern must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification and submit within 120 days. The intern agrees to a probationary period of 90-days from the first day of working in their new position. After 90-days, the intern will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress. Intern must comply with the flu and covid19 vaccination policy.
