Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:
Iridium is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer who can independently deliver high-quality work and ensuring that products sold by Iridium meet high standards for performance and appearance. Working in this role, you'll develop and drive implementation of quality improvement plans for subscriber equipment products (phone handsets, modems, transceivers, etc.) with both internal organizations and outside suppliers to achieve ever-higher performance standards.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the inspection and testing of Iridium products, assemblies, kits, accessories, etc.
  • Identify and implement new ideas and approaches to drive electronic, mechanical, and cosmetic appearance quality improvements
  • Establish key metrics and make decisions using data to meet product specifications, business objectives, and customer expectations
  • Develop, communicate, and deploy systematic procedures and processing instructions that drive improvement of Supplier Quality
  • Schedule, document, and follow-up on manufacturing process audits with Iridium suppliers
  • Schedule and audit internal Iridium processes
  • Prepare meaningful and actionable performance charts to maintain and improve product quality and track Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) to help in business decisions
  • Analyze and present data and information collected from multiple ODMs, contract manufacturers, and key sources of supply that is helpful for business decisions
  • Analyze warranty returns and repair requests to determine root cause and independently propose corrective actions
  • Coordinate the issuance of Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and conduct follow-up verification and validation of actions taken by suppliers
  • Represent the quality function on new product introduction teams


Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the Electronics industry in a Quality function
  • Experience with Configuration Management and Change Management processes
  • Experience with electronic assembly test methodologies
  • Strong background with First Article Inspection (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) implementation with suppliers
  • A methodical understanding of Root Cause Analysis, Cause and Effect, and Corrective Action
  • Working knowledge of statistics and process control techniques
  • Working knowledge of ISO-9001:2015 and AS9100
  • Working knowledge of ESD controls and IPC Workmanship Standards
  • Proficiency with MS office, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Strong organization and communication skills, detail-oriented, with the ability to effectively communicate issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
  • Be comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed
  • A depth of technical skills in dealing with complex issues and the ability to transfer findings into report and presentation formats

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Certification in internal or ISO9001 auditing experience.

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
