Assistive Technology Specialist

The Assistive Technology Specialist plans and facilitates the implementation of appropriate testing accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students with disabilities. Interprets and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments. As a part of a team, the Assistive Technology Specialist advises and orients students on accessing appropriate assistive technology, support services, and testing needs. The Assistive Technology Specialist serves as the first point of contact for students and families and serves as the contact person for all test proctoring needs. The Assistive Technology Specialist plans, coordinates, manages, monitors, and facilitates the implementation of appropriate accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students with disabilities and manages the testing process for SAS. This position oversees the coordination and student support for all assistive technology needs, material conversion, and the peer notetaking process. The SAS team member will serve as the subject matter expert on digital accessibility responsibilities within the department.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, or any coursework, training, or education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. Three years of experience with assistive technology (software and hardware) or related. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the individuals we serve and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of ADA and Section 504. Experience in providing services to students with disabilities, preferably in the adult level. Knowledge of instructional design and technology. historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination.
