**Role:** Layout Artist 2
**Duration:** 18 months
**Worksite:** Vancouver - Candidates must be local to Vancouver and willing to come to the studio.
**Description:**
**Responsibilities:**
- Work closely with the Cinematics Director and various departments within the Game Team.
- Pre-visualize scenes in Maya and Unreal using concepts, scripts, and storyboards.
- Prepare for and support Motion Capture sessions.
- Perform the technical layout of real-time scenes using Motion Builder, Maya, and Unreal.
- Edit with audio using Premiere and Unreal.
- Apply final camera polish.
- Create and support seamless transitions between gameplay and cinematics.
- Convey stories and emotions through cinematic cameras, providing creative solutions to enhance scenes.
- Develop a deep understanding of the proprietary tools and processes used by the layout team and build upon that foundation.
- Anticipate layout production needs and effectively communicate tool requests.
- Collaborate with production on dependencies, estimates, and scheduling.
- Train and mentor new layout artists as needed.
**Requirements:**
- 3-5+ years of experience in video games, film/television, or equivalent.
- Art-related degree and/or comparable professional experience.
- In-depth understanding of cinematic language, including strong emotional storytelling through staging, composition, and editing.
- Solid knowledge of camera lenses and traditional principles of cinematography.
- Experience working with Motion Capture.
- Comprehensive understanding of the principles of animation.
- Ability to offer creative problem-solving ideas related to cinematics content.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Maya, Motion Builder, and Premiere.
- Scripting skills in Maya and Motion Builder, with a passion for creating tools to assist workflow, is a plus.
- Experience with Unreal Engine or other game engines is a plus.
- Experience in animation, rigging, and video editing is a plus.
