Performing an average of 7,000 cases each year, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic and Orthopedic surgery. It is also the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.

RN Unit Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance, clinical expertise, and mentoring to members of the health care team within the specialty while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
This role will support Neuro, Plastics and Urology service lines primarily.
In this role, you will coordinate the purchase of instruments and equipment for the service line while providing education and support for staff, participating in interviews, and ensuring that all specialty rooms are prepared daily. You will hold quarterly meetings with management to discuss project updates, review pick tickets for necessary changes, and collaborate with vendors to identify cost-saving opportunities. Additionally, you will check expiration dates, support precepting staff, work closely with surgeons, facilitate changes, and manage equipment organization and maintenance. Moreover, you will collaborate with Central Sterile Services on instrument set needs, submit work orders for any equipment issues, and proactively review surgical schedules to address potential conflicts with supplies or implants.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)18 months of Nursing Experience RequiredGraduate from an accredited school of nursing Registered nurse licensure in state of employmentBasic life support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hirePreferred:
Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification
Advanced computer skills (eg, Microsoft® PowerPoint, Excel)
