In partnership with MassHire North Shore Workforce Board and North Shore Community College, this Mental Health Specialist, with Training is a grant-funded position that will work Full time at Salem Hospital on our Pediatric Psychiatric Unit or on one of two Adult Psychiatry Units. Additionally, this individual will be required to take a total of six three-credit courses over approximately two years. Classes will be offered online at a time convenient with their work schedule. This individual will be part of a group of other Mental Health Specialists with Training and will receive ongoing support from MGB, Salem Hospital and North Shore Community College throughout the duration of the program. At the end of the two-year program, efforts will be made to help identify next steps and career opportunities across the MGB system.

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, performs direct care to patients in a restraint free environment to promote the recovery of patients. Also provides appropriate medical attention for patients requiring care in voluntary and involuntary situations, under the direction of the Registered Nurse to promote the recovery of patients.

Required
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Within 30 days of hire, requires successful completion of Avade Training. Requires intense attention to ensure a safe environment. Proficiency in using computers and the ability to quickly gain competency in various specific hospital software. Ability to communicate with patients of a diverse age, populations, and multitude of cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred
  • Experience in an acute care hospital setting, inpatient mental health unit or any related experience (eg: residential setting)
  • CPR Certification
