Nelson-Young Lumber Company, a family-owned and operated business with fourth and fifth generation family members actively involved in the business is seeking a Controller, at our Edgerton, WI location. This key management member will initially focus on accounting activities with the potential for a broader scope of responsibilities that may include HR and IT oversight, risk management, and company fleet regulatory compliance. The current incumbent will be available for an extended period, so ample opportunity for a successful transition in accounting and other areas of interest will be provided.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete or assure timely and accurate completion of all accounting tasks such as month-end closing, tax filing, cash management, account reconciliations, AR/AP oversight, inventory management oversight and maintaining banking relationships.
  • Administer credit granting tasks.
  • Facilitate year end procedures including scheduling the annual review with the outside accounting firm and account reconciliation and adjustment.
  • Supervise 2 - 3 direct reports.
  • Broader scope responsibilities available:
    • Manage HR relationship with outsource company including oversight of benefit offerings, payroll processing, and safety compliance.
    • Manage IT relationship with outsource company including participation in ERP system support, expansion initiatives, equipment upgrades, and communication systems
    • Risk management, including managing the insurance agent relationship.
    • Regulatory compliance for delivery fleet, including annual tax filings, driver compliance, and review of fuel billings.

Qualifications include:

  • BA in accounting or finance required, Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with most recent experience as a Controller in a small or medium sized private company or comparable public accounting or industry experience.
  • Prefer experience in the manufacturing/distribution industry, including inventory management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and other accounting concepts and experience in their application.
  • Proven track record successfully using Microsoft Office effectively.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Highest possible ethical and professional standards.
