Position Description:

The Database Administrator will support the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) at Patrick Space Force Base Florida. This role involves managing and maintaining database systems, ensuring their security, performance, and compliance with DoD standards. The position requires expertise in Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Oversee and manage Oracle and Microsoft SQL database environments, ensuring alignment with vendor best practices and DoD, Air Force, and AFTAC policies​​.
  • Vulnerability Scanning: Schedule and conduct vulnerability scans on approximately 66 databases monthly, analyze results, and report impacts to AFTAC​​.
  • Security and Compliance: Review, maintain, and manage DISA STIG checklists, ensuring compliance with CCRI standards. Remediate findings and prepare POAM documentation as necessary​​.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for Oracle Database Appliances (ODA & ExaData), Microsoft SQL Server, database migrations, and data replication. Comply with applicable DoD and AF policies for configuration and sustainability​​.
  • Performance Monitoring: Use Oracle tools to monitor and optimize database performance. Gather and report historical performance data to AFTAC as required​​.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including test plans, hardware inventory, and performance reports. Provide monthly status reports and technical presentations​​.
  • On-Call Support: Respond to on-call support requirements within one hour of notification, providing both telephone and on-site support as necessary​​.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Oracle database administrator and the ability to meet the key responsibilities of the position.​
  • Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Required Certifications:
  • IAT Level 2 Certification: (One of the following required: CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
  • Oracle and/or MS SQL DB Certification
  • Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional

  • Desired Certifications: MCSA in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Skills: Proficiency in Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, performance tuning, and data protection solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Security Clearance: Must possess a Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI​​.

Work Environment:

The Database Administrator will be primarily based at Patrick SFB in Pensacola, FL, working within a secured government facility. The role requires strict adherence to security protocols and may involve periodic on-call support to address mission-critical IT system issues outside of normal working hours​​.
