Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a specialized area; or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

The successful LINUX Systems Administrator must have:

  • Hands-on experience with UNIX/LINUX
  • Troubleshooting experience
  • Networking experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Responsive Help Desk experience
  • Microsoft Office product experience
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Scripting experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Data Center experience

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience with hands-on Linux administration
  • Create, modify and troubleshoot shell scripts as needed/required
  • Work with other teams/discipline to gather/collect statistical metrics
  • Five years’ experience supporting Operations at Tier 2 and/or Tier 3
  • Experience and exposure to network security (Splunk, Clearswift, etc.), basic networking (protocol, switch / router exposure, etc.)
  • Experience working within a distributed team and supporting remote site users
  • Demonstrated experience leading a small team
  • Experience working on PitBull MLS OS (label encodings file and netrules)

Applicants must meet DoD 8570.1 certification requirements for IAT-II or higher

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time CONUS and OCONUS, scheduled and unscheduled with short notice
  • Must be able to support rotating morning shifts (8 AM–5 PM and 6AM – 3PM)
  • Must be able to support occasional priority actions outside of normal duty scheduling

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a minimum of an active TS/SCI clearance. Must be willing and able to obtain a polygraph within a reasonable amount of time after hire, with acceptable timing determined by manager. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a PitBull/LINUX Systems Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Red Hat LINUX command level administration
  • Pitbull command level administration
  • Command level troubleshooting of OS and associated hardware/software
  • May be called upon to support IPA (Identify Management), SSO, Ceph distributed storage
  • Manage cross domain enterprise level solutions
  • Provide on-site technical solutions
  • Install, move and or break-down systems
  • Create detailed technical reports and metrics
  • Provide detailed technical solutions
  • Perform system builds
  • Maintain the security and stability of cross domain solutions
  • Interact with customers
  • Create, modify, and remove user accounts
  • Perform Linux audit and reporting tasks
  • LINUX/UNIX Scripting skills highly desirable
  • Must be able to perform scheduled and unscheduled fly away support
  • Must be able to support occasional priority actions outside of normal duty scheduling
