Position Description

JOBSUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs diversified duties required to install, move, maintain, and support all IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems at the Casino and remote offices. This includes overseeing the overall maintenance of the system devices related to the CPU, disk, and all peripherals. The incumbent will identify the benefits or issues, along with recommendations based on commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures. Assists the Operations Manager in leading and directing the day-to-day work of the Computer Room Operators. Resolves and escalates technical problems according to standard operating procedures and within defined service levels. Assist in driving operational efficiencies/continual service improvement within the department. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation's policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards, and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Lead projects associated with the enhancement or implementation of new or existing technology solutions
  2. Review, recommend and monitor the source code/versioning management function
  3. Provide technical leadership of issues across multiple disciplines and technologies
  4. Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting
  5. Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across IBM i platform
  6. Identify technical innovation and process improvement opportunities
  7. Monitor and manage backups.
  8. Installation of cumulative PTFs and upgrade packages.
  9. Disaster Recovery (Replication) support using PowerHA.
  10. Perform operating system and/or application software updates
  11. Research and recommend solutions to improve business performance and/or reduce cost.
  12. Configure, test, debug, and document device and software configurations
  13. Maintain compliance with all IT policies and procedures.
  14. Maintain 24x7 availability to address critical business and/or IT issues.
  15. Understand DBA functions in a DB2 environment.
  16. Manages roles and rights to use IBM iSeries applications and functionality.
  17. Responsible for the protection of data. Monitors these systems' high availability, role swaps, and disaster recovery.
  18. Tests the role swaps between the production and disaster recovery site at various times of the year.
  19. Receives and responds to incoming requests/trouble tickets regarding problems related to the IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment.
  20. Creates and updates all IBM iSeries (AS/400) hardware, software, and user locations documentation.
  21. Assists the Operations Manager with leading and directing the work of the Computer Room Operators.
  22. Provides exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicates in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner at all times. Maintains a professional work environment with supervisors and staff.
Position Requirements

Education/Experience:
  1. Equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college coursework in computer science, management information systems, or equivalent work experience.
  2. 3 to 5 years of experience within an IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment with a focus on Casino applications.
  3. Work experience with monitoring and maintaining system operations as it relates to backup/recovery, communications, performance, and security.
  4. IBM iSeries (AS/400) LPAR, and Technical Design & Implementation, and Multiple System Administrator experience required.
  5. Must be familiar with and able to implement IBM replication components PowerHA, Global/Metro Mirror, and FlashCopy
  6. Working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment.
  7. Must be familiar with IBM Power hardware, SAN fabric, and external storage
  8. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in commands, HMC, and utilities.
  9. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  10. Previous experience providing IT support in a 24-hour operational environment preferred.
  11. Previous experience working in a casino is preferred but not a requirement.
  12. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  13. Experience in AS400 Security Management, Communications, Operating System Upgrades and PTF deployment, Independent Auxiliary Storage Pools (iASP's), and Storage Based Replication
  14. Has performed at least one major system hardware upgrade.
  15. Has performed at least one major operating system upgrade.
  16. Has performed and/or has knowledge of procedures for a full system restore (site-down / crash).
  17. Experience in high-availability software and multiple data centers.
  18. Understanding of RPG/DB2 coding

  3. Must be able to maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast-paced, casino environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community in all situations.
