Description:

The Tooling Specialist shall assist in operating in the functions of Mechanical Engineering Technicians in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. Employee must clock in and out during shifts. Any misrepresentation of time by the employee or co-worker for such employee shall be grounds for termination.

1. Qualifications:

1.1. High School diploma or equivalent of 1-year related experience in the production of tooling.

1.2. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.

1.3. Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and handheld technical devices.

1.4. Shows a demonstrated competence in some of the following: electrical, hydraulics, tool and dye.

1.5. Must be available to work outside the normal work week schedule when needed. (Emergency breakdowns and Scheduled Outages.)

2. Responsibilities:

2.1. Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan requirements fabrication, assembly, and testing.

2.2. Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections.

2.3. Review project instructions and blueprints to certain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and test nature of technical problems such as redesign.

2.4. Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery or equipment, and measuring instruments.

2.5. Draft detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet or wood shops.

2.6. Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed.

3. Activities:

3.1. Operates machine shop tooling and machines: mills, drills, lathes, flame cutters, hoists.

3.2. Repairs tooling and fixtures damaged in production.

3.3. Welds and assembles tooling when design is complete to insure function, quality, and safety standards.

3.4. Assembles parts into product and verifies dimensions and alignments.

3.5. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock to lay out for machining.

3.6. Other duties as assigned.

4. Authority and Obligation:

4.1. Work closely with Maintenance Department on projects and planning outages.

4.2. Reports to the Tooling Team Lead, Slitter/Tooling Supervisor or Mill Manager and when necessary to the VP of Operations.
