Job Summary: The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.

Additional Department Summary: Advises all incoming Human Development and Family Studies students across three majors assisting with class scheduling, recruiting, and processing override requests. Meets with prospective students, conducts group orientation for incoming freshmen in Summer. Coordinates transcript reviews as needed. Coordinates student internships including facilitating and reviewing affiliation agreements between The University of Alabama legal counsel and internship sites, and onboarding interns according to the specifications of affiliation agreements. Develops and maintains connections with key internship sites in the community performing site visits as necessary and meeting with prospective internship to help identify potential placements. Coordinates and vets all changes to the undergraduate courses and curriculum.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Development/Family Studies or equivalent field. Some experience in teaching or advising in a higher education setting. Graduate Teaching Assistant experience.
