Tableau Administrator/IT Specialist

Overview:

Softtek Government Solutions is hiring a Tableau Administrator/IT Specialist to support our client, Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). ASPR is a public health preparedness and emergency response organization in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services. ASPR was created under the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to lead the nation in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters.

Responsibilities:

  • The Tableau Administrator/IT Specialist will support its mission through the development, administration, and optimization of critical systems and tools.
  • Tableau Server Administration and Optimization
    • Tableau Server Management: Serve as a senior subject matter expert for planning, deploying, configuring, and managing Tableau on Windows Server. Ensure that Tableau Server is optimized for performance, reliability, and scalability to meet both routine and surge demands.
    • System Maintenance and Upgrades: Plan, design, and implement system upgrades, security patching, and routine maintenance for Tableau Server. Perform regular system backups and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
    • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor Tableau Server performance, analyzing server processes and services. Recommend and implement changes for continuous improvement, optimization, and automation, ensuring the server can handle increased loads during critical scenarios.
    • Data Management: Manage and optimize data sources within Tableau, including the creation and maintenance of data extracts and connections to various databases. Use scripting, such as Python, to automate data extraction and transformation tasks.
  • Security and User Management
    • Security Best Practices: Implement and maintain security best practices for Tableau Server, including data encryption, secure access controls, and compliance with federal and organizational security standards. Regularly review and update security protocols to address emerging threats.
    • User Access and Permissions: Manage user roles, permissions, and groups within Tableau. Ensure that user access is appropriately configured and regularly audited to maintain the security and integrity of the Tableau environment.

    • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor user activities and server configurations to ensure compliance with security policies and standards. Implement auditing and reporting mechanisms to track changes and access within the system.

  • Collaboration and IT Support

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with ODAIA, IT support teams, and other stakeholders, including the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and ASPR Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), to ensure that Tableau Server aligns with organizational needs and IT strategies.

    • System Integration: Collaborate with other IT specialists to integrate Tableau Server with existing systems and platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and compatibility. Support other IT-related areas in the context of ODAIA's mission, such as data visualization and business intelligence.

    • Training and Support: Provide training and support to ODAIA staff and end-users on the effective use of Tableau for data visualization and analysis. Develop training materials and conduct workshops to enhance user proficiency.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Transfer

    • Comprehensive Documentation: Document all Tableau Server administration processes, including system architecture, configuration settings, and maintenance procedures. Ensure that documentation is detailed, accurate, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

    • Knowledge Transfer: Provide knowledge transfer sessions and ongoing support to IT staff and other stakeholders to ensure continuity in the management and optimization of Tableau Server.

    • Regular Updates: Regularly update documentation and training materials to reflect changes in Tableau Server configurations, security protocols, and best practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Required Clearance:

  • Ability to obtain security clearance, including passing a public trust background check.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, data science, or related field.

Qualifications

  • Tableau Expertise:
    • Certification: Tableau Server Certified Associate or higher (preferred).
    • Experience: 5+ years in systems administration, with 3+ years focused on Tableau Server in a Windows Server environment.
  • System Administration Skills:
    • Proficient in Windows Server, including backups, performance tuning, and security patching.
    • Experience with Tableau-specific tools (TSM, tabcmd) and command-line utilities.
  • Security/Compliance:
    • Strong understanding of data security best practices and compliance.
    • Experience managing user roles and permissions within Tableau.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
    • Proven ability to integrate Tableau with other systems.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize Tableau Server performance.
  • Attention to Detail and Time Management:
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
