Alternative House has been providing comprehensive domestic violence services in the Greater Lowell area since 1978. The agency offers emergency shelter, crisis hotline services, temporary safe housing, legal advocacy, supervised visitation services, support groups, and more to thousands of survivors of domestic violence. Alternative House focuses on empowering individuals through safety planning, goal setting, financial empowerment, and job/educational placement.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Shelter Advocate at Alternative House in Lowell, MA. The Shelter Advocate will be responsible for providing support to survivors of domestic violence, including offering crisis intervention, safety planning, facilitating support groups, conducting intakes, and assisting with advocacy services. The role involves working evening shifts to ensure round-the-clock support for residents.
Sunday - Thursday 3 PM - 11 PM
&
Tuesday - Saturday 3 PM - 11 PM
Qualifications
- Experience in crisis intervention, advocacy, and trauma-informed care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Knowledge of domestic violence issues and resources
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and boundaries
- Flexibility to work evening shifts and weekends
- Bilingual fluency is a plus
