The Orthopedic Program at Rush University Medical Center is ranked 5th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush doctors are the official team physicians for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Fire Soccer Club and DePaul University Athletics.
Ready to join in? We are looking for a full time Medical Secretary to be based out of our Chicago, IL location. The ideal candidate will exhibit high standards, excellent communication skills, exceptional time-management capabilities, and have an ability to take initiative.
General Expectations
- Functions as a liaison between patients, physician practices, internal departments, hospitals and other organizations.
- Close collaboration with the physician and staff.
- Prepares the charts for clinic day.
- Interface with surgery scheduler as needed.
- Completes correspondence including faxing, mailing, work comp reports, draft letters, and maintenance of medical appointment schedules for the practice.
- Responsible for assisting to organize any meetings, private records reviews and depositions for assigned physician.
- Represents physicians by screening incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages; receiving/announcing scheduled attorneys, salespeople and/or visitors. Screen potential patients and visitors; arranging referrals to other health care providers; scheduling appointments for consultations, x-rays, lab tests, physical therapy, MRI's, CT scans, etc.
- Travel as needed per the physician’s request.
- Organize and maintain the practice calendar.
- Track IME documents, invoices, and payment.
- Interface with workers compensation scheduling department and case managers.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3 -5 years of administrative assistant experience.
- Healthcare experience required.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills within the team and to patients
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, emphasis on word, excel, and outlook.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment including problem solving, decision making, strategic thinking, planning, and communication.
- Superior organization skills
