McCurdy Real Estate & Auction is a full-service auction firm specializing in real estate. Founded in Wichita, KS, in 1982, McCurdy has grown to become one of the Midwest’s leading auction firms. McCurdy conducts more than 500 auctions annually on behalf of sellers ranging from individual homeowners to Fortune 500 companies.
Position Responsibilities
Compliance and risk management – 50%
Manage closing department staff, assign responsibilities, and resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise.
Learn and become a subject matter expert on compliance requirements throughout the organization with a particular focus on real estate contracting and closing.
Escalate issues to the firm’s General Counsel or Managing Broker, as appropriate, to ensure awareness and to mitigate risk.
Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, reduce risk, and improve customer service.
Navigate and negotiate to successfully close challenging transactions in conjunction with Auction Managers.
Ensure timely and accurate document preparation, execution, and contract logging for regulatory compliance with the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC).
Understand and follow REALTORS of South Central Kansas (RSCK) rules and regulations.
Review title work and other transaction documents to identify and solve problems with obtaining merchantable title for both real estate and personal property (mobile homes or other property subject to UCC/lien filings).
Contracting for real estate transactions – 40%
Act as the primary point of contact for buyers, sellers, and other parties, from contracting through closing.
Assist the Sales Team with contracting for real estate auctions and private treaty transactions.
Escalate challenges and issues to the Auction Manager or Managing Broker as needed.
Become familiar with all standard RSCK and custom McCurdy contracts and forms. Recommend changes and enhancements as appropriate.
Provide superior customer service so everyone involved chooses McCurdy as their provider of choice for future real estate transactions.
Other Responsibilities – 10%
Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, develop, and mentor Closing Coordinators.
Observe members of the Sales Team on bookings to learn what the Sales Team does, and recommend enhancements to better refine business processes.
Problem-solve as requested by the Executive Team.
Collaborate with other department managers on transactions or company initiatives.
Monitor changes impacting the real estate and auction industries.
Participate in business development in conjunction with the Sales Team.
Network regularly with real estate companies, attorneys, bankers, institutions, and corporate sellers, advocating for the McCurdy brand and processes.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in business is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in real estate, banking/lending, or at a title company.
Kansas Real Estate Salesperson’s license, or willingness to obtain a license.
Experience leading a team and managing people, systems, or processes.
Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite of software products and ability to learn industry and company-specific software tools.
Must be a detail-oriented self-starter able to prioritize tasks, move transactions forward, and meet deadlines.
Able to occasionally work evenings or weekends, as needed, to provide support for time-sensitive transactions, after-hours auctions, or urgent issues.
Must be able to work in-office with long period of sitting, occasional lifting up to 40 pounds, and the ability to drive around town to title companies and other offices as needed. (Mileage reimbursement provided.)
