About the Team

OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission. OpenAI's Revenue team works cross-functionally to grow and evolve the Company's commercial offerings. This team oversees billing operations, deal desk, revenue systems and revenue close, in ensuring the organization's revenue processes are efficient, accurate, and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.

About the Role

As a Revenue Accounting Manager, you will support the accounting close process and assist on strategic initiatives to streamline the close process. You will partner cross-functionally across StratFin, FP&A, GTM, Finance Data, and other teams to shape revenue close and enhance our revenue reporting processes to ensure they are streamlined, efficient, and tailored to meet the current and future needs of the stakeholders.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:
  • Assist with overseeing the accounting close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses, to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of close.
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validations for accounting system updates, ensuring smooth integration of new accounting rules and supporting change management for new product incorporations.
  • Utilize strong analytical and SQL skills to investigate root cause revenue discrepancies, propose and implement solutions, and collaborate with relevant teams to ensure corrective actions are taken as well as systematically working to fix on a go-forward.
  • Develop, maintain, and document internal controls and develop new controls as the Company continues to expand and evolve.
  • Understand internal and external revenue reporting requirements and optimize financial systems to provide improved visibility.
  • Prepare ad hoc revenue analysis as requested and respond to auditor queries.
  • Assist in expanding the accounting team by participating in the recruitment and training of accounting contractors to build a robust team capable of supporting the company's growth.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years of operational accounting within a fast-paced, high-growth environment, preferably in public or large pre-IPO companies.
  • CPA certification and in-depth understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in dynamic environments, adeptly managing multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines. A self-starter with a history of identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance accuracy and timeliness of close,
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with Finance Data, Billing Operations, Deal Desk, and Product teams, to maintain revenue recognition systems to ensure GAAP and SOX compliance.
  • Solid business acumen and the ability to analyze information from internal and cross-functional teams to assess the need for and execution of manual and/or systematic accounting entries.
  • Experience in maintaining accounting rules within ERP systems for new product integration and change management.
  • Advanced analytical and SQL skills, has experience working with large volumes of accounting data, and can investigate revenue discrepancies and drive systemic improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing relationships with external auditors to facilitate efficient completion of audits requests.
You could be an especially great fit if you have:
  • Proficiency working with data analysis and business intelligence tools (ie. Oracle NSAW, Tableau, Databricks).
  • A background in coordinating workflows with global teams.
  • Experience in Order to Cash (OTC) processes for SaaS and consumption-based businesses.
  • Possessing SOX-related experience is an advantage.
