This role will be located at our Knoxville, Tennessee facility. Role Overview: The project engineering role is a critical position to the success of our external parts business. This position entails digesting, planning, and executing project schedules while assisting in overcoming any obstacles that occur in the process. This position requires direct and frequent contact with customers and operations teams. Additionally, this role is critical to establishing process for contract review and manufacturing readiness review. This role serves as the go between for operations and sales, advocating for the project’s progression and staying with the problems in the program/project until resolved. Duties and Responsibilities: Create and manage project schedules and coordinate with customers and other departments to ensure successful delivery of hardware to external customers. Digest and flow customer requirements in the form of a manufacturing review and flow-down. Establish and maintain the contract review process and partner with operations on the manufacturing review process. Communicate with customers on a regular basis on project progress, setbacks, obstacles, and improvements during and prior to the manufacturing process. Anticipate risks and project changes and suggest or execute risk mitigation actions. Work with outside vendors to get quotes, issue purchase orders, and manage schedules. Establish machining supply chain strategy and work to optimize/onboard out-of-house vendors for customer projects. Work with sales and finance to support new work and invoicing. Contribute to the development and creation of project engineering’s tools, processes, and trainings by leveraging lessons learned. Track and occasionally initiate parts moving through the process to ensure timely delivery to the next process and to the end customer. Coordinate with all departments to work through non-conformances, engineering change notices, and other unplanned events. Manage and track project budget to ensure under-budget delivery. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Applied Sciences, or close disciplines. 5+ years of experience in additive manufacturing or project management. Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar project management software. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with cross-departmental teams of staff and executives. Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. Ability to execute responsibilities independently with minimal day-to-day oversight. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience creating process from scratch. Ability to own a problem and stay with it until resolution is reached. Willingness to work extended hours during mission critical activities. Understanding of overall aerospace manufacturing process (Additive manufacturing, thermal processing, machining, coating, NDT, mechanical testing, etc.). Preferred: AS9100/ISO9001 or equivalent (automotive, medical, etc.) experience. Experience managing aerospace or automotive projects.
