The Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for managing the payroll for 175+ employees and will assist the Human Resources Department with the administration of employee benefits. The Specialist will work closely with employees assisting with onboarding, managing the HRIS system, overseeing benefit enrollments and changes, and other administrative support as needed. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Responsibilities
Payroll
Perform all activities necessary to process payroll. Maintain all related records, payroll registers, deduction reports, garnishments, etc.
Verify that all tax reports are filed by the payroll vendor and handle all related payroll tax issues.
Maintain the payroll and HRIS database ensuring information is accurate. Prepare reports for managers including absence reports.
Assist the Director of Human Resources in keeping accurate records of insurance coverage, pension plan, retirement savings plan and personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations.
Benefits Administration
Assist employees with enrollment and changes related to benefits. Ensure that proper payroll deductions are set up in the system.
Assist employees onboarding and questions they have regarding benefits.
Reconcile monthly benefit bills and prepare and distribute annual benefit statements to employees.
Serve as a back-up for school store sales and order fulfillment.
Comply with all HIPAA laws and regulations at all times.
Other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree with one to two years of related experience. A degree in accounting or human resources preferred.
Prior experience working with a payroll and HRIS system a plus.
Proven ability to work under very strict deadlines and with highly detailed and confidential data. This position requires absolute confidentiality.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent organization and time management skills.
Must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment.
