JOB SUMMARY: The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will be responsible for growing and maintaining a comprehensive major gifts program focused on attracting gifts in excess of $25,000. The MGO will build strong relationships with major donors and prospects, and actively develop a major giving pipeline. The MGO will be a key player on the Foundation’s Development team and will significantly contribute to revenue goals. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and established standards, practices, and procedures. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a combination of education and/or relevant work experience. EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of not-for-profit fundraising and development experience, preferably in a healthcare field environment. One to three years' direct work experience as a fundraising professional with a major gift portfolio. PREREQUISITE SKILLS: A team player: must be comfortable working in a team environment and be interested in the success of colleagues as well as their own. Must be willing to assist with projects outside direct responsibilities when needed to complete a team project. Initiative: devoted to getting the job done; displays a genuine desire for the work at hand. Flexibility: has the ability to respond quickly and is flexible to changing situations and new information; able to successfully juggle several projects at one time. ESSENTIAL (not modifiable): In collaboration with the Foundation President and Chief Development Officer, and in accordance with the mission and values of MarinHealth, the MGO is responsible for managing the major giving programs of MarinHealth Foundation. The MGO is directly responsible for the discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of an active portfolio of 150 major donors and prospects. In consultation with other Foundation leadership, develops written cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans, utilizing a moves management approach to engage prospects and donors. Effectively engages in face-to-face contacts with identified, qualified, and existing major gift donors and records such activities in donor database. Manages and sustains programs that engage and involve Foundation staff and trustees, volunteers, and physicians in major gift planning, cultivation, solicitations, and gift stewardship. Works with the Foundation President and Chief Development Officer and other appropriate leadership to identify approved potential programs and projects for major gift support. Participates in the development of cases for support and the proposals and materials needed to make such activities successful. The MGO is skilled in balancing personal and technological approaches to maintain and build relationships with major giving donors and prospects as well as with planned giving prospects. The MGO will establish good working relationships with Foundation staff, Administration, directors of departments, physicians, volunteers, and the Foundation Board of Directors. Remains current and conversant with all that is going on in healthcare in general, and MarinHealth in particular – its programs, mission, and vision. Provides input on MH’s strategic initiative and develops tactical strategies for the economic success of the Medical Center, change management, organizational re-engineering and nontraditional approaches to organization, and problem solving. Directs the preparation and maintenance of various management reports. Prepares periodic reports, as required. Ensures compliance with policies and objectives and with regulatory requirements. Participates in committee meetings as required. Attends and serves as MH representative on professional/civic service organizations, as appropriate. Initiates and coordinates interaction and activities with other departments, agencies, and individuals. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
