The EHS Manager - Portsmouth is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive range of employee health and safety programs, environmental regulations and services to meet the goals and legal obligations of High Liner Foods Portsmouth. These functions include, but may not be limited to, the assessment, facilitation and evaluation of injury prevention, environmental safety, occupational health and safety and the development and implementation of EHS policies and programs while working within the confines of the overall EHS strategy enterprise wide.

The EHS Manager - Portsmouth will be based out of the Portsmouth, NH Operations facility and will act as the primary on site EHS Manager for this site.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and update environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, procedures, programs, and permits to ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations for High Liner Foods Portsmouth. Oversee and implement the EHS strategy plan and assess needs and gaps through hazard assessments, data analysis, audits, and best practices.
  • Review and optimize EHS programs based on legislative updates and best practices, and provide expert advice on EHS matters, including legislative requirements.
  • Represent management in EHS matters with government agencies, associations, and organizations. Participate in hazard and risk management, emergency planning initiatives, and inspections for fire hazards and risk reduction.
  • Provide compliance support with PSM and RMP-related programs, manage workers' compensation claims, and oversee medical management of work-related injuries and illnesses. Effectively manage return-to-work programs and investigate accidents thoroughly.
  • Develop, arrange, and present safety training for all employees, visitors, and contractors. Manage contractor safety, ensure training requirements are met, and maintain training records via LMS.
  • Conduct internal and external EHS audits, coordinate inspections and investigations, and prepare and submit EHS statistics. Manage health and safety supplies, support annual EHS initiatives, and participate in ESG-related activities.
  • Coordinate safety committees to ensure management commitment and employee engagement, maintain EHS-related records, and perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in occupational health and safety management.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, including federal, state, and city regulations (e.g., US DOL OSHA and EPA), workers compensation processes, and related legislation.
  • Experience in disability management, accident investigation, workplace inspection, job hazard analysis, and familiarity with highly hazardous chemicals (e.g., anhydrous ammonia) and food manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong skills in planning, collaboration, conflict resolution, and maintaining confidentiality; service and team-oriented leadership with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with LMS applications, administration systems, and Microsoft Office; commitment to continuous professional development.
