Essential Duties

1. In alignment with the University's mission, develops and strategically positions human resources goals and objectives to successfully attract, retain, and motivate a highly talented and diverse workforce. 2. Influences, writes, approves, and enforces human resources policies, procedures, and practices for major human resources operations and initiatives. Makes, writes and approves policies and procedures relating to various major functional human resources areas. 3. Directs and influences the work and their managerial and professional staff to execute human resources initiatives, ensure work assignments are proceeding on schedule and meeting the established quality standards. 4. Translates University level goals into human resources department level goals. Writes and approves human resources unit level goals. 5. Influences and directs, long term planning and allocation of resources to set financial, operational, and budgetary success for the human resources department. 6. Influences and directs human resources staff and resources to drive financial, operational, and budgetary success within the human resources department. 7. Guided by University strategy; anticipates issues; invents new solutions and implements new and enhanced programs consistent with University goals for maintaining a highly talented and diverse workforce. 8. Directs overall staff activity for entire function inclusive of exempt and non-exempt employees. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field and seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:

Yale is seeking a Senior Director, Employee Relations, to be a key liaison between Yale Human Resources (HR) and the largest employee group within Yale today, the School of Medicine (YSM). Leading a team of HR Business Partners and Generalist(s), the Senior Director will report to the Vice President, Human Resources, with a dotted line to the Deputy Dean of YSM Finance & Administration. The senior director will champion the human resources delivery model for an organization of approximately 4,200 staff employees supporting the education, research, and clinical missions of the school.

The influential leader will serve as a key strategic member of the HR and School of Medicine leadership teams. This will translate to a strategic thought partnership that will drive proactive and impactful people solutions that align with the overall goals and organizational priorities of the School of Medicine and the University. Key Responsibilities for the Senior Director, Human Resources: Liaise with the University HR centers of expertise to formulate and implement various HR initiatives such as compensation and recruitment strategies, performance management solutions and framework, and successful labor and employee relations outcomes. Build and maintain a high-performing organization with a culture of client partnership and service, continuous process improvement, and collaboration with all School of Medicine and University HR stakeholders while also prioritizing the key elements of thoughtful leadership including inspiring, developing, coaching, and offering their team an environment of psychological safety.

Partner on matters of policy interpretation and application of employment laws and partner with University Labor Relations and union leadership on strategic labor-management initiatives and solutions. Serve as a strategic partner for data-driven workforce planning and development, employee engagement, and staff development/learning, DEIB. Will also play a key role in helping to strategically align with other constituents such as the Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) and Health System (YNHHS) on key HR initiatives that can bring synergy and best practices where appropriate.
