DEPARTMENT PURPOSE:The Marketing & Donor Experiences team, which falls within the Strategic Engagement team at the OSU Foundation, collaborates with internal and external partners to provide strategic, integrated marketing and communication services and special events expertise to achieve our mission of serving OSU and providing our donors with top-level impactful experiences.

POSITION'S PRIMARY PURPOSE:The Director of Donor Experiences provides the strategic vision for the Foundation's many special events and works toward crafting the highest level of donor experiences. This position leads a team of special events experts within the Marketing & Donor Experiences department. The Director is charged with leading team efforts to craft and execute donor experiences that engage, communicate and celebrate the impact of donor support on the university.

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS:

Provide strategic vision for the OSU Foundation's donor events in collaboration with internal & external partners - 40%
  • Work closely with campus partners and OSU Foundation leadership, fundraising units and other teams within the Strategic Engagement Team to help create the vision behind all levels of donor events that exceed expectations and align with institutional budgets
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Donor Experiences Communications team to develop event runs of show that engage audiences and include impactful speakers and event components
  • In tandem with the Marketing & Donor Experiences Communications team, play a lead role in writing talking points for key events to fully craft the overall event and donor experience
  • Lead efforts to identify impactful event speakers, with a focus on identifying, securing and prepping students to speak at donor events (both in person and on video)
  • Interact with high-level donors and prospects at events and during office hours
  • Attend events and provide onsite guidance and assistance
  • Maintain strong relationships with, and provide timely and effective communication to vendors, campus partners and internal departments
  • Serve as liaison to OSU Athletics and work with OSU Foundation Leadership and Donor Experiences Events Assistant on donor ticket management and distribution
  • Develops overall event invitation list philosophy and parameters with Leadership & Team Lead
Manage Donor Experiences Team - 30%
  • Responsible for managing a staff of three events experts, which includes personnel coaching and mentoring as well as frequent communication and meetings to ensure the successful completion of both departmental and individual goals
  • Work closely with Marketing & Donor Experiences Project Manager, using the Monday.com project management system, on project workflow and staff workloads within the Donor Experiences team
  • Oversee overall events budget for the Donor Experiences team, which includes working with the Marketing & Donor Experiences AVP on budget development, as well as with Donor Experiences staff and Development Unit Team Leads on budgets for each planned event
  • Invest in growth of employees by looking for professional development opportunities for them to exercise their strengths and grow their experiences
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, which mirrors OSU Foundation organizational values and places equal importance on results and relationships
Execute high-level donor events & experiences - 30%
  • Serve as project lead on VIP-level donor events such as Proud & Immortal, in collaboration with the Donor Relations team and Foundation leadership
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Engagement Senior Director on comprehensive campaign events, including the vision and execution
  • Work with Donor Experiences team and internal/external partners on strategies and tactical execution of Presidential-level, high-level, and Unit/College donor events
  • Work with Donor Experiences team members to ensure all event details are set up, including speakers, audio visual, dcor, menu, parking, RSVPs, name tags and seating
  • Maintain confidential donor information stored in donor database and archive systems
  • Help Donor Experiences team members manage invitation lists, event budgets and post-event documentation and communication
  • Assist team with general on-site event components, such as registration, set up & tear down

JOB COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Education & Certifications-
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Marketing or Business Management preferred
Experience-
  • Minimum of seven years of successful events planning and execution
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing a team of full-time staff members
  • Development (fundraising) experience and knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a fundraising nonprofit or higher education organization is preferred
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organized, flexible and detail-oriented with impeccable customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively, managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines reliably
  • Frequently required to work evenings and weekends, with occasional travel
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of Foundation and University staff on related events, particularly the highest administrative levels including the Provost, Deans, the Foundation and University Presidents
  • Proficient in all Microsoft software platforms
  • Knowledge of basic information, event and database systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must use a computer terminal and view a computer screen for extended periods of time.Must talk in person or by phone (frequently and sometimes for extended periods) to people on campus and across the country.Must constantly use visual acuity to check printed and designed materials of various types.Must be able to navigate within the OSU Foundation.
