Summary:
We are seeking Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI's) to perform welding inspections in the LaCygne, KS area.
Our innovative and growing company is looking for a certified welding inspector. Please review the list of responsibilities and qualifications. While this is our ideal list, we will consider candidates that do not necessarily have all of the qualifications but have sufficient experience and talent.
NOTE: Hourly rate, plus overtime, night shift differential, and per diem paid weekly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Welding Inspection and Compliance- Ensure all welding activities meet applicable standards, codes, and specifications. Monitor and verify that welds are performed per the approved procedures.
- Documentation and Reporting- Accurately document welding inspections, tests, and any discrepancies. Prepare and submit reports detailing the findings, ensuring they are clear, concise, and in alignment with project requirements.
- Nonconformance Identification- Identify and document any welding non-conformances, ensuring timely communication with project managers and the Quality team for corrective actions.
- Code Knowledge and Application- Possess a deep understanding of welding codes (e.g., AWS, ASME) and demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply them correctly in the field.
- Safety and Compliance Assurance- Ensure that all welding operations are performed safely and in compliance with applicable safety guidelines and regulations.
- Continuous Improvement and Training- Actively participate in training sessions to remain current with industry trends, new welding techniques, and code updates. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior inspectors and welding personnel.
- Quality Collaboration- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and quality teams to ensure that all welding work meets the highest quality standards and is executed efficiently.
- Weld Testing and Verification- Oversee and verify the performance of weld tests, including visual inspections and any required destructive or non-destructive testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education- High School Diploma or equivalent required. An associate degree, military training, apprenticeship, or technical school training is strongly preferred.
- Experience - 2-5 years as a CWI, preferably on a construction site.
- Physical Requirements- Ability to perform tasks that involve standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Certification- Must hold a current Certified Welding Inspector certification.
- Leadership- Proven leadership abilities and team-building skills.
- Additional Certifications- Certifications in MT, PT, UT, and/or RT are highly desirable.
- Inspection Experience- Experience in visual inspection and nondestructive testing of welds is required; experience with AWS and ASME standards is preferred.
- Technical Skills- Ability to interpret structural steel plans, working drawings, and technical specifications.
- Tools Proficiency- Skilled in using weld inspection tools, including weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
- Plan Interpretation- Capable of reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and completing daily work reports.
- Independence- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- American Welding Society (AWS) / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Certifications in the Following Areas:
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)).
The position requires the employee to work in potentially dangerous surroundings, sometimes in inclement weather conditions including rain. They must have the ability to lift to 50 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Frequently reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds at times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND EXPECTATIONS
Some job duties are performed within an established office environment under normal lighting and climate-controlled tolerances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
When the employee is at a work site, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions. The noise in the work environment is often loud.
Requires a consistent physical presence at the branch office to oversee shared services functions and employees, normally achieved by working standard business hours. Certain positions will require flexibility of working hours to meet the demands of the job and the direction of the manager.
