POSITION SUMMARY The Programs Coordinator is a dynamic instructor, responsible for leading Podcasting Field Trips at our Tenderloin Center. The core of our work is direct service and this position will lead and support programming approximately 10-14 hours per week. The ideal candidate is excited to work closely with students, teachers, and volunteer tutors to provide high-quality writing and podcasting programs for focal school classes that visit the Center for high-energy, project-based writing and recording experiences. The Programs Coordinator is energized by students in grades 3-12, can effectively engage a class of students, enjoys juggling a variety of duties, and loves to ensure that our students’ voices are celebrated via podcasts. The ideal candidate believes deeply in our students and communities, and will work hard to provide joyful and effective programming that will help students thrive. This position is full-time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (work schedule subject to change based on programmatic needs) WHO WE ARE 826 Valenciais an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to supporting under-resourced students ages six to eighteen with their creative and expository writing skills and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. POSITION SNAPSHOT Engage students from across San Francisco in effective podcasting programming Amplify student voice by recording, editing, and publishing their podcasts Collaborate with a staff team, teachers, volunteers, and interns REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Programs Coordinator reports to the Tenderloin Programs Director or Manager. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Program Coordination and Support Lead classes of students in a 4-hour field trip program where students write, practice, record, and publish a podcast; coordinate all aspects of the program including scheduling, volunteer coordination, teaching, and podcast dissemination Correspond effectively and expediently with teachers to schedule field trips and plan lessons based on students’ needs; institute effective and timely communication methods; develop supporting curricular resources Along with the Programs Director and Manager, develop engaging, relevant writing projects and resources Develop outreach campaigns to ensure priority schools are accessing program services and that field trip slots are filled Coordinate and support the activities of interns, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members, including audio-specific training; recruit, train, provide feedback, support, and celebrate tutors to promote continued engagement and improved effectiveness In collaboration with the Programs Director and Manager, determine program priorities and track progress towards goals and objectives; implement systems that help evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved methods for program delivery Track student and volunteer data using Salesforce; support grants reporting and program evaluation as needed Collaborate with the Tenderloin Team to manage the creation, editing, publication, and production of students’ podcasts Serve as instructor for summer programming Provide support to other 826 Valencia programs as needed, including occasional evening and weekend events Other Responsibilities Participate in staff and departmental meetings, internal committees on diversity, equity and inclusion, the annual 826 National conference, anti-racism trainings, other professional development activities, and performance appraisal systems Proactively raise issues with the Supervisor to prioritize tasks and implement solutions; meet all deadlines and maintain accurate timesheets Work collaboratively with all staff members to ensure robust programming All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Supervisor EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree Minimum of two years of experience teaching under-resourced youth Experience working with audio and podcasting production (preferred) Bilingual in English and either Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and/or Vietnamese (preferred) Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and macOS Able to regularly travel to 826 Valencia Centers (826 Valencia pays for the cost of local work-related travel) Familiarity with the Tenderloin neighborhood (preferred) Able to complete a background check and tuberculosis screening.
