* 2 - 3 years of groundskeeping experience in turf management, landscaping, irrigation systems, and snowplowing preferred. * Knowledge of Athletic field maintenance and game line setting preferred. * Flexibility and availability to work days, evenings, and weekends. * Class D driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the district (District-issued vehicle). * Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. * Ability to work independently as well as with a team. * Effective time management with multiple tasks and close attention to detail. * Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with co-workers and supervisors. * Positive attitude and strong work ethic. * Experience with building maintenance practices and techniques. * Ability to use mobile communication devices to communicate with the SBM team. * Ability to operate landscaping equipment, paint, and field maintenance machines/equipment. * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. * Ability to lift 75 Lbs independently. * Ability to be mobile and on your feet for extended periods of time.

Grounds Athletic Field Specialist:

* Performs a variety of specialized grounds maintenance work in the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and surrounding landscaped areas. * Layouts, marks, and lines synthetic turf/grass and play areas for practice and competitions; line with appropriate marking materials or equipment to delineate the area of play and restricting lines as prescribed and established by league and sport rules; grade infields and build mounds. * Maintains and repairs grass, sod, and infield areas; mows, edges and trim athletic fields and surrounding landscaped areas; perform a variety of grounds maintenance duties including preparing and cultivating soils, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, and other activities. * Fertilizes and applies chemicals to control insects, diseases, and rodents; maintains application schedule and records. * Aerates and irrigates field areas; maintains and repairs irrigation systems to assure proper and safe operating conditions; sets timers and heads for proper time and distribution of water. * Prepares clay surface for pitching and batting areas; drags infield areas and base paths according to established procedures. * Performs minor maintenance and repair work on equipment and facilities; assists in setting up equipment and facilities for special events; maintains routine records related to work activities. * Operates and maintains a variety of light to heavy equipment including mowers, edgers, pruners, power sweepers, blowers, sprayers, tractors, trucks, line marking machines, and other related equipment as required. * Learns and applies emerging technologies as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner. * Comfortable working in a matrix management system with a direct supervisor, Director of School Building Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Athletic Director, Coaches, Principals, and elected officials

Crocker Field Complex Caretaker Duties

* Perform a variety of caretaker / custodial duties throughout the complex, including all buildings and grounds located at Crocker Field. * Perform housekeeping and basic maintenance duties at the semi-skilled level and do not require journeyman trade or craft knowledge. * Dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing, buffing and waxing floors. * Operating low-pressure heating systems * Making minor building and system repairs * Snow removal includes but is not limited to shoveling, snow blowing, and plowing. * Painting of spaces, changing light bulbs, emptying trash. * Monitor grounds to include the area and sidewalk around Crocker Field. * Set up and break down of complex for events * Spring and Fall grounds clean up * Maintain the complex in a ready state to be utilized by the City residents * All other duties as assigned

Location: Based at Crocker Field, travels to other locations

Area of Responsibility: Crocker Field Complex and ALL District Athletic Fields ( FHS -Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Field Hockey, Tennis Courts; Memorial Middle School - Soccer / Lacrosse, Field Hockey )

Reports to: Director of School Building Maintenance or Designee.

Schedule: M-F 7:00 am - 3:00 pm and as needed for Athletic / District events and Snow Removal

Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year:

12-month work year. As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
