Manpower Engineering is seeking a creative, curious Mechanical Design Engineer for our Lebanon, IN client with experience in core design and mechanical skills but is really driven by learning about how things work. This job will allow you to be creative with tools to help manufacture state-of-the-art equipment. The role requires someone to truly think outside the box when determining what should be customized for the job at hand.
What you'll be doing:
- R&D-type environment, once have and idea, will have design reviews, get quotes on prototypes, work with welders and machinists, then get the design validated
- Create/Update manufacturing drawings to reflect current changes & revisions.
- Store & maintain current drawings, part numbers, and serial numbers in the Engineering Vault
- Explore solutions to help increase productivity in manufacturing & assembly processes.
- Create 3D models in SolidWorks and provide 2D engineering drawings for manufacturing.
- Create prototypes for new design equipment and supporting manufacturing with any needed help
- Create engineering documents and assisting in establishing controlled processes for documentation.
- Inspect manufactured components.
- Light travel to support off-site managers with dimensions, equipment, or other needs.
- Bachelor's degree not required, skill and knowledge more important
- Around 3+ years' experience in machine design in a manufacturing environment
- Looking for thinkers who can come up with ideas
- Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Understanding of tolerances/clearances (GD&T)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, material handling, mechanics of materials).
- Understanding of how to put things together after they're designed, some machining knowledge to be able to know if something can be made and understanding of what can be welded.
- Experience in the following: electrical systems, assembly, and manufacturing.
- Must be reliable, have a willingness to learn and be able to adapt to new requirements and environments
- Not afraid to get dirty on shop floor
