Carlow University is now accepting applications for our new Student Success and Retention Specialist position. The Student Success and Retention Specialist is a Title III grant funded position that reports to the Director of Retention. The Specialist helps promote a positive and successful learning experience for students with the goal of increasing student persistence, retention, and completion. The Specialist is expected to become thoroughly familiar with Carlow's programs and services, including admission and enrollment processes. The Specialist serves as a go-to resource for students, especially those returning to Carlow to complete their degree after a hiatus.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive student success and retention plan.
  • Lead outreach to students who left Carlow before graduating, and coordinate efforts to facilitate their re-enrollment and degree completion.
  • Identify opportunities for proactive outreach to at-risk students, including both the creation of new initiatives and optimization of existing resources.
  • Assist with outreach to appropriate individuals and departments in Academic and Student Affairs; provide faculty, staff, and students with information about program areas, services available, new initiatives, and opportunities for participation.
  • Assist with implementation of retention technologies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Monitor academic progress of students by analyzing progress reports from various sources, including academic and case management software, determining eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree, identifying current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring), and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
  • Develop and implement student success and outreach plans that utilize proactive strategies to re-engage students who need additional support, connecting them to intentional intervention and student support activities.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Summer Bridge Programs.
  • Plan events for students and create opportunities for them to explore the local community.
  • Collaborate with campus partners on workshops and programming that support retention and student success, including study groups, linked tutoring, and embedded tutoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Commitment to student success and the mission of Carlow University.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working with university students.
  • Understanding student development theory, specifically in first year, commuter, and transfer student needs and engagement.
