This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of the Launch Facility Team, you will implement and maintain instrumentation and control hardware for various Ground Equipment for the New Shepard program. This equipment is used to support New Shepard Launch and vehicle maintenance activities. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of New Shepard launch facility readiness. The position is responsible for the electrical implementation, maintenance, and operational status of the New Shepard launch facility control and monitoring systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee's ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot issues with launch facility instrumentation and control systems
  • Author work instructions for new hardware installation, preventive, and corrective maintenance items
  • Work closely with engineering, technician, design teams to ensure equipment is being built, operated, and maintained properly
  • Participate and oversee in the hardware build, installation, verification and maintenance activities
  • Plan and oversee preventive maintenance and upgrades of instrumentation and control systems
  • Maintain company-wide electrical design standards
  • Provide day of launch engineering support for launch facility instrumentation and control systems
  • Plan, build, and maintain electrical control and instrumentation systems
  • Review control system electrical drawings for build and installation
  • Identify and procure required components for build and maintenance activities
  • Work with subcontractors and technicians performing installation projects
  • Maintain configuration control of installed instrumentation and controls systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering. Other engineering or science degrees or work history will be considered if experience in the above responsibilities are met
  • Experience in electrical schematic design and panel layout design using CAD (preferably AutoCAD Electrical)
  • Working knowledge of integrating instrumentation with data acquisition hardware
  • Proficiency with electrical diagnostic equipment, such as digital voltage multimeters, oscilloscopes, and cable testers
  • Experience working with industrial sensors and actuators: pressure, temperature, LVDT, accelerometers, motor controllers, valves, and pumps
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years' experience with industrial or aerospace facility design or operation
  • Experience in a dynamic and time critical operating environment
  • Tuning closed loop control systems
  • Experience with Linux Systems
  • Professional experience in software development using PLC Ladder Logic, MATLAB, Python, or C/C++
  • Experience in writing detailed work instructions for corrective and preventative maintenance.
  • FMECA and other systems safety experience
