As a Principle Software Engineer in the Disability Evolution organization in Cary NC, you will be responsible for leading technical design and development of cross functional, multi-application, hybrid-cloud platform to solve complex business problems for our Group Disability customers and their employees. The role will be focused on ensuring the rich technical solutions are architected and delivered, increasing the maturity of our Group Disability platform. This role will be responsible for driving development delivery - technical decisions, best practices, and end to end design from development to post production support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivery of complex functionality spanning AWS, Azure, and on-prem integrations across Informatica, WMB, homegrown API's, internal data platforms, and digital delivery channels
- Hands on work with requirements, application architecture, design, code, code-reviews, CI/CD, deployment, and trouble-shooting prod issues
- Participates in capability, feature and user story refinement, help manage user expectations and provide options, develop technical designs, conduct peer code reviews, develop code as necessary.
- Drive new best practices and look for continuous improvements in the delivery process
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Solution architecture on roadmaps and architecture runway.
- Diagnose and solve for technical debt in existing solutions
- Provides estimates for work efforts on new projects and work with teams on sizing features and user stories
- Mentor, motivate, drive innovation and develop existing team's technical capabilities.
- Drive development process improvements and ensure delivery quality
- Oversight (code review, design review) of development work by multiple development teams
Required:
- 7+ years' experience in Software Development and strong technical experience with building enterprise scale distributed and cloud or hybrid-cloud applications, with development experience with JAVA (Spring, React or Angular), SQL, Shellscripts, API's, and a variety of databases.
- 3+ years hands-on application architecture and design experience.
- 3+ years' experience with AZURE or AWS using various solutions.
- 3+ years' experience with following or similar databases: Oracle, MongoDB, CosmosDB, and experience with BigData tools such as Hive, Hadoop.
- Understanding of Docker, AKS and containerization.
- Experience with integration tools such as MuleSoft, Websphere Message Broker, Informatica, Redis, MQ
- Experience creating strategy and process for multi release code management and CI/CD pipeline using tools similar to Subversion, Git, Bamboo, Jenkins, UCD, Nexus, Artifactory
- Experience instrumenting and using monitoring tools such as Splunk
- Experience with both waterfall, iterative and agile methodologies, and use of tools such as JIRA
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details, professionalism and time/task management skills, and ability to establish strong relationships.
- Prior experience leading development teams as application architect and/or development manager
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field
- Background working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking
