The Speech Language Pathologist works with the Exceptional Student Services team to provide quality school-based speech language services, which include prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, social communication, and cognitive-communication disorders in children. The Speech Language Pathologist is a member of the IEP team and is responsible for developing appropriate IEP goals to meet students’ needs, communicating with teachers, parents, and related service providers. Role and Responsibilities The duties of the Speech Language Pathologist include, but are not limited to, the following tasks: Assessment Successfully articulating the role of speech therapy in the evaluation, intervention planning, and intervention process. Conducting assessments and evaluations in accordance with parent/guardian and student rights and Louisiana Bulletin 1508. Using a variety of appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate and report student progress. Service Integration and Delivery Selecting, adapting, and sequencing purposeful speech activities that support goals and increase access in the general education setting. Providing services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offering students opportunities to participate in their own learning experience. Serving as the case manager and developing and implementing IEPs to meet the individual needs of the student. Participating as an active IEP team member in IEP meetings. Maintaining a safe environment, equipment, and materials. Preparing and maintaining accurate records and progress notes. Completing thorough evaluation of the functional activities involved in speech language. Educating and demonstrating therapy techniques to parents that can be incorporated into the home. Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement. Maintaining an inventory, controlling the storage and use of department property, and overseeing the working condition of said equipment. Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Other Duties Serve as a Special Education Compliance Manager . Participating in faculty meetings. Attending Professional Development sessions. Assisting in orientation and open houses as needed. Producing performance-based activities to support school initiatives. Performing other job related functions as may be assigned.
