BASIC FUNCTION:

Under general leadership from the Associate Nursing Director of Interventional Services, the Performance Improvement Specialist is responsible for collecting, validating, organizing, and analyzing healthcare data from multiple sources and interpreting charts, graphs, tables, dashboards and correlations with the purpose of helping department leadership to drive strategic decision-making, support business intelligence and quality improvement initiatives. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Performance Improvement Specialist to drive performance improvement measures, maintain regulatory measures, aggregating and reporting quality data to identify NYS and other regulatory agencies per program requirements. This position will be an integral part of the cardiovascular administrative team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
  • Bachelor's degree required. Preferred degree in, health sciences, healthcare informatics, information systems, statistics, or business preferred from an accredited college. Associate's Degree with 3-5 years relevant work experience considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Requirements (i.e., DOH, CMS) related to quality is essential
  • Certification in Healthcare Quality Management (CPHQ) is desirable.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Under direct supervision of the Senior Performance Improvement Specialist, the position will perform the following duties:
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets healthcare data (ambulatory, inpatient, billing, etc.); coordinating with appropriate team member(s) to develop quality of care measures and tools.
  • Submits all current and retroactive data regarding cardiac patient populations for various cardiac databases, registries and research projects.
  • Identify trends and patterns of practice.
  • Evaluates the quality of data submitted by health care providers and other entities utilizing database management tools (e.g. Excel, Pivot Tables, Access, Sequel)
  • Communicate the results of data quality analysis to the Senior Specialist.
  • Collaborates with data submitters to resolve data quality issues.
  • Prepare analytic reports and evaluate results of healthcare quality analysis
  • Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources and maintains databases/data systems in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Filters and "cleans" data, and reviews computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
  • Develop data solutions that can be made reusable, automated and standardized for data management and report generation.
  • Works closely with Senior Specialist to prioritize information and business intelligence needs.
  • Locates and defines new process improvement opportunities and collaborates with Senior Specialist on methods to implement.
  • Works with Senior Specialist for timing of deliverables.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to:
  • Mandatory education
  • Annual health assessment
  • Performs other tasks or projects as assigned by Senior Specialist.
SECTION V:

  • Able to communicate and work collaboratively with administration, cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and other medical/nursing/ technical personnel. Must be able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to turn data into information and information into meaningful reports

Salary Range: $24.75-$36.53/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
