The Claims Manager position at our Maitland, FL office offers a hybrid work environment, requiring a minimum of three days per week on-site. This role does not carry its own caseload but involves periodic supervision of claims, particularly high-profile ones. The ideal candidate will have previous experience or a technical understanding of FL, GA, NC, SC, VA, and WV jurisdictions and must be proficient with claims in FL, GA, NC, SC, and WV, with a willingness and ability to learn additional jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities include leading and managing a team of 9-11 Workers' Compensation Supervisors, overseeing the overall performance of the WC staff, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The position demands strong technical skills in Workers' Compensation laws, claim management, sharp analytical skills, leadership, team management, conflict resolution, decision-making, strategic planning, and communication.

Additionally, the role involves compliance management, adaptability, training and mentoring, professional development, and flexibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as strong presentation skills, is essential. The Claims Manager is also responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff, adhering to the annual operating budget, and minimizing fines and penalties.

The ability to multitask, meet deadlines, take direction, and occasionally travel to client sites for meetings, reviews, conferences, and other training is required. A strong understanding of risk management, adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to self-teach are crucial. This role manages a team of 10 supervisors, each with an average of 5 to 6 adjusters, and the team is expected to grow in the coming months. The Claims Manager is responsible for the investigation, adjustment, and supervision of assigned claims, as well as the coordination of all claim staff and functions within the claims area. This position may also serve as advanced training for potential promotion to higher management levels.

Responsibilities:
  • Review, assign and provide supervision of all claim activity for designated claims to ensure compliance with Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Investigate, evaluate and adjust assigned claims in accordance with established claim handling standards and laws.
  • Reserve establishment and/or oversight of reserves for designated claims within established reserve authority levels.
  • Provide oversight of medical, legal, damage estimates and miscellaneous invoices to determine if reasonable and related to designated claims. Negotiate any disputed bills or invoices for resolution, as appropriate.
  • Authorize and make payments of claims in accordance with claim procedures utilizing a claim payment program in accordance with industry standards and within established payment authority.
  • Negotiate settlements in accordance within Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and state laws, when appropriate.
  • Direct handling of designated litigated and complex claims.
  • Provide education, training and assist in the development of claim staff.
  • Review and maintain personal diary on claim system.
  • Supervision of all claim activity for specified accounts.
  • Attend account Board Meetings, conduct file review meetings and/or training sessions with clients, as requested.
  • Attend and participate at hearings, mediations, and informal legal conferences, as appropriate.
  • Performance appraisals and objective/goal setting and attainment of claim staff.
  • Remain current on all legislative activity (both federal and state), industry and market trends to ensure that all staff members are appropriately informed and understand the impact of these developments.Develop revise and implement workflow processes to ensure efficiencies and provide oversight of individual caseloads, as appropriate.
  • Monitor compliance with Corporate Claim Handling Standards and special client handling instructions statutes, rules and regulations, and relative case law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Reliable, predictable attendance within client service hours for the performance of this position.
  • Responsive to internal and external client needs.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and/or in writing both internally and externally.

Education and/or Experience

15+ years Workers' Compensation claim experience is required.

Three years supervisory experience required.

Computer Skills

Proficient using Microsoft Office products such as, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

FL adjusters license is required.

AIC, CPCU or ARM Designation preferred.
