Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Annual Giving, the incumbent will write, manage and implement direct response programs focused on acquiring or increasing annual support from alumni, alumni family members, grateful patients and friends on behalf of Jefferson. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for developing fundraising and communications materials which include writing, editing and proofreading support for the Annual Giving unit of Insitutional Advancement. Under the direction of the AVP, the Associate Director (AD) will compose and edit fundraising appeals via direct mail, telemarketing and e-communications; create collateral materials; and assist with donor stewardship communications. The AD will recommend targeted approaches for various audiences in solicitation and stewardship activities as well as other communications such as newsletters and social media initiatives, Web site updates, as needed; and conduct interviews with paitents, students, faculty, alumni, and parents. The AD will also coordinate special projects as assigned by the AVP

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Associate Director for the Annual Giving works collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Advancement team to increase private support through the acquisition, retention and reactivation of alumni, family members of alumni, grateful patients and friends. The Associate Director is responsible for developing marketing collateral to assist and support the annual acquisition and retention of donors and manage solicitation activities for direct mail, email, web presence and other engagement centered communications. Specific duties include:

  • Responsible for the management and implementation of annual solicitations through direct mail, email, social media, automated voice messaging and digital advertising, with a special focus on data management.
  • Develops segmentation strategies for various donor cohorts such as first time donor acquisition, loyal donor retention, presidents club upgrades and outreach.
  • Manages direct marketing for alumni and friends for enterprise-centric campaigns for Jefferson's Giving Day.
  • Partner with Communications staff to develop creative pieces as needed and to ensure appropriate branding for all alumni and friend related direct marketing.
  • Writing a significant amount of highly segmented semi-weekly solicitations through a variety of marketing channels including:
    • Setting up copy to correspond to the segmentation strategy developed by the lead annual giving director;
    • reviewing and editing live samples from vendors for proofing accuracy prior to the solicitation being mailed out;
    • Collaborating with the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA) Communications team to meet and adhere to all OIA style guide and messaging initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other enterprise units to obtain pertinent information to reference in letters and other collateral materials in order to meet department goals. The Direct Marketing Specialist is aware of events and new programs across the enterprise in order to use that information in solicitation and communication pieces
  • Collaborate with OIA University major gift officers to assist with the pipeline development of alumni and donors to meet the long-term goals of the annual giving program unit.
  • Partner with other campus units such as Student Affairs, Alumni Relations and other colleagues to represent annual giving goals and objectives.
  • Various other duties as assigned.
  • Guided by Jefferson's mission, organizational culture, values, and vision for the future, provide inspirational fundraising leadership through teamwork, collaboration, and loyalty.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, preferred, or equivalent level of professional experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION :

Driver's License

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
  • A minimum of three-four (3-4) years of progressively responsible experience in annual giving or progressively responsible experience in direct marketing or fundraising.
  • Experience in a university setting preferred.
  • Proven experience in direct marketing.
  • Considerable experience in persuasive writing, and editing solicitation letters, articles, business letters, scripts and other communication materials required.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively about the value of philanthropy with a keen eye for detail and superior proofreading skills. Writing skills to include campaign materials, solicitation letters, correspondence, and response devices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to develop and manage projections and a budget.
  • Experience with fundraising database software systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
