Brief Description of Duties:

The Employment & Education Placement Specialist is responsible for providing direct client care to justice-involved individuals, particularly members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) community. This position is within Justice Assistances CORES Program, which is a fully customizable approach to providing wraparound services to justice-involved individuals. The Employment & Education Placement Specialist is also responsible for raising awareness about the CORES program to the business community by attending business related roundtables and professional association gatherings to establish contacts and represent clients according to CORES program assignments. Develops an offender employment regulatory expertise to ensure successful placement. Records case-related management information system data, writes and files correspondence and tracks clients progress and outcome. May be required to fill in for other placement specialist on as-needed basis (e.g., illness or vacation).

Takes Direction From:Chief Executive Officer;Chief Operating Officer; CORES Program Director; Manger: Client Services

May Give Direction To: Case Worker (s); Case Intern (s)

Works With:Marketing and Development Officer; Marketing and Communications Officer; All Case Management Personnel; All Support Staff

Tasks (listed by priority):

  • Meet regularly with clients to discuss their interests, skills, employment and educational background as well as their employment and education goals. Monitor and support job search process.
  • Assist with work readiness; interviewing skills, resume writing, appropriate dress and general job readiness skills.
  • Establish dual pathways to training, employment and education through public and private training programs. Introduce CORES clients to Habitat for Justice and assist with enrollment process.
  • Establish relationships with industry to hire justice-involved individuals using all tools available.
  • Refer individuals who have been identified and are available for the training programs hosted by the RILSR and other community agencies.
  • Record and maintain all case data and correspondence.
  • Coordinate daily activities and communicate client status reports with CORES team.
  • Generate program outcome reports.

Critical Skills:

  • Current knowledge of all state and federal criminal justice system.
  • Current knowledge of all state and federal regulations related to offender hiring.
  • Current knowledge of all state and federal incentives related to offender hiring.
  • College degree from an accredited college or university in social or behavioral science or criminal justice or other pertinent field required.
  • Bilingual. English/Spanish preferred.
  • Valid motor vehicle operators license and a reliable automobile
  • One year experience with job search guidance, teaching or job placement.
  • Have good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Experience with justice-involved individuals given preference.
  • Experience with recruiting and staffing.
  • CASAS Proctor preferred.

Notes About This Position:

The Employment & Education Placement Specialist is the principal CORES representative to the business community and for the client involved in the program. This position oversees all job search/education activities, appropriately representing CORES at public and private functions, including program presence at business/education forums, identification of available tax credits and/or tuition assistance, client contact, data entry, file maintenance and case resolution. The Employment & Education Placement Specialists will keep the Program Manager and senior management staff current on program activities and needs.
