Job Overview: Staff Tax Accountants are given a wide variety of diversified accounting and tax assignments under the supervision of different professionals. Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, ability to meet time constraints, and displays professional conduct. This position supports the firm by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Becomes familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures including workpaper preparation and tax procedures, including documentation. Understands the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA. Keeps current on technical issues and attempts to apply them to client circumstances. Progresses professionally by working toward passing the CPA exam as soon as possible. Becomes proficient in the use of the various software programs used by the firm. Also becomes familiar with research tools used by the firm. Prepares personal, fiduciary, corporate, and partnership tax returns of varying complexities. Responds to tax notices of any sort and prepares initial drafts of letters required. Makes adjusting entries and completes a trial balance in order to prepare a tax return. Contributes by producing quality work, quick turnaround, and attentive service. Assists with recruiting new staff by maintaining university contacts and participating in on-campus and office visits. Performs services within budgeted time by developing technical, time management, and organizational skills. Develops sound working relationships with administrative personnel, peers, and supervisors to foster teamwork. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree from a four-year college or university; Active Louisiana CPA license is strong preferred but 150 credit hour requirement must be met; and less than one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills : To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in use of computers and have knowledge of computer accounting software programs used by the firm. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Holds a current and valid CPA license and is a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants, and the State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
