Health and Safety Specialist

Our Dominguez, CA (Long Beach) plant is on the hunt for a Health and Safety Specialist.This is a corporate role.
  • The base salary range for this position in as for the job description criteria as listed is $100,000 to $130,000 annually.
  • Our salary ranges are determined by market data based on position and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum salaries for that position.Where an individual's pay falls within the range is determined by factors including, but not limited to, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
  • In some cases, compensation may fall outside of this range depending on factors, including a candidate's qualification, skills, competencies, experience, and location.Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
Thisposition actively analyzes the work environment, local culture, and policies tocontinuously improve Health and Safety performance on site.Thisposition inspects the workplace for adherence to regulations on safety andhealth.They help design, implement, train employees, and auditversus compliance on programs to prevent injury and/or disease.Positiontravels 10% of time to support the Portland, OR site.Position may additionally travel up toanother 10% to support other site audits and/or turnarounds.Somespecific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

TEAMS
  • Actively participate and support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Meetings (monthly)

  • Coordinate and Lead Emergency Response Team (ERT) activity (drills, critiques, training, equipment inspections, etc)

FIELDPRESENCE
  • 20% target time in field.
  • Daily Field Audits such as LCPs, My Check 5s, GSWP audits
  • Recognize positive behaviors and/or hazardous situations, and provide feedback.
  • Periodically attend Operations, Maintenance, and or Contractor Toolbox meetings (weekly)
  • Promote good housekeeping
  • Turnaround primary H&S support, including daily toolboxes, daily field observations, daily safety lunch, and daily 2PM meetings (2 units.every 18 months per unit).Approximately 80% time in field.

Lead, support, promote, improve, and enforce compliance with all corporate/plant HSE policies, procedures, performance standards, ISO/RC 14001, and Ecovyst 20 Principles

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years' experience preferred in chemical plant / refinery experience.
  • 2+ years' experience preferred with in multiple HSE areas a plus (environmental, health, occupational safety, process safety, etc.)
  • Knowledgeof OSHA & NIOSH standards, including PSM
    Familiaritywith industry standards & practices (API, ASME, NFPA, etc)
  • Well-trained& practiced in Incident Investigation Cause Mapping, RCFA and / orequivalent.
  • Well-trained& practiced in Emergency Response (HAZMAT, Incident Command Structure,First Aid, Confined Space Rescue)
    Abilityto comprehend, analyze, and understand the legal aspects of locallegislation and develop compliance programs to decrease facility processsafety liabilities and reduce process risks
  • Ability to speak in front of a group and demonstrated ability to be an effective trainer.
  • Workswell under pressure - ability to meet tight deadlines with qualityresults.
  • Strongcommunication/inter-personal skills - able to inspire and encourage theuse of best practices at plant sites, able to communicate with plantstaff, GBU management, and regulatory agencies.
