University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) has an opportunity for a salaried, full time WordPress web developer with data visualization expertise (Research Associate 3) to work in Miami or remotely, supporting NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory’s Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystem Division in Miami, FL. This RA 3 will work in partnership with NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary system as well as the NOAA Integrated Ecosystem Assessment program. This position will work with a team to create web-enabled data visualization tools in an ecosystem context for a variety of resource management related projects. Responsibilities include: Create and maintain a highly customized WordPress-based site architecture for the display of complex scientific data to non-technical audiences. Project trend analysis and content creation Write, update and maintain front end project content in collaboration with project partners. Participate in/facilitate project stakeholder meetings to solicit and incorporate project feedback. Data maintenance and management Provide scientific oversight and operation of web-based data display and dissemination capabilities. Assist with development and maintenance of NOAA project data policies, templates, and workflow documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with community data quality procedures and data policies. MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Science/engineering-based bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: The request lifecycle and the database structure of WordPress CSS HTML Object-oriented PHP in the context of WordPress JQuery D3 mySQL REQUIRED DOCUMENTED DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE WITH: Building and maintaining WordPress-based websites. Using Git for collaboration (please provide GitHub username). Writing WordPress plugins. Writing WordPress themes. Using tools like Adminer/phpMyAdmin to directly access and modify WordPress databases. Using Local or other local WordPress development tools within a Git framework. OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS: Demonstrated experience to create and maintain formal and informal collaborations with other research groups and institutions.
