The Resource Description Services (RDS) Team in the Libraries encourages applications for a Government Documents/General Collections Cataloging Specialist The RDS Team supports the University Libraries’ mission by providing people with detailed and timely intellectual access to over five million volumes of governmental and intergovernmental documents and technical reports for education and research purposes. The provision of access is achieved in partnership with clients and the wider library community and is crafted to promote client self-sufficiency in finding, identifying, selecting, and acquiring information resources. Reporting to the Head of the General Collections Cataloging Section, the Specialist performs original and sophisticated copy cataloging of government information materials in a variety of formats and supplies cataloging for the Libraries’ general collections. Monographic Cataloging for Government Publications:

Performs monographic cataloging for government publications in a variety of formats, particularly for state and federal documents. Contributes to the team’s Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) work, particularly by crafting BIBCO-level bibliographic records and NACO-level authority records. Engages in RDS linked data initiatives. Monographic Cataloging for New Acquisitions and other non-Gov Docs Materials:

Performs monographic cataloging for newly acquired books and other non‐government documents materials in a variety of formats, including print, media, electronic resources, depending on team needs. Professional Development and Service:

Pursues an active program of continuing education to remain current in national cataloging standards, technology, and trends. Participates in learning activities that promote inclusive excellence. Participates in relevant professional development and cross-training opportunities. May serve on library-wide and national level service committees, groups, and pods. Collaborative Work:

In coordination with the Government Documents Metadata Coordinator, participates in the development, evaluation, and documentation of policies, procedures, and workflows related to the cataloging of government documents in collaboration with RDS members and other library units. Procedures and Documentation Maintenance:

Collects new documentation from RDS Team for FOLIO procedures and policies. Publishes collected documents on RDS and Libraries' Sharepoint sites. Removes old documentation on Sharepoint that are no longer in practice. What We Require

Recent Professional cataloging experience in OCLC and an Integrated Library System (ILS) cataloging module. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience or combination of education and experience may substitute. What You Will Need

Experience with cataloging government information materials; Coursework in Library and Information Science; Knowledge of PCC (NACO, BIBCO, SACO, or CONSER) and OCLC Enhance standards; Familiarity with FOLIO LSP; Bibliographic knowledge of one or more non-English languages (special preference given for knowledge of Cyrillic, Arabic, and/or Hebrew script).
