GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes and nurtures positive relationships between the Department and various local stakeholders. Serves as liaison between community partners and the Department by facilitating communication and promoting collaboration to address community needs and concerns. Plans and coordinates various Department initiatives, programs, and special events. Performs related work and duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Director of External Affairs and Communications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Attends regularly scheduled and special meetings held by community based organizations, public health agencies, law enforcement organizations, and other stakeholders as a representative of the Department;
  2. Maintains regular communication with community partners to discuss upcoming events, meetings, and other relevant issues, Department efforts in prevention, community outreach programs, and other relevant issues;
  3. Coordinates and executes all aspects of the Department's annual "Youth Summer Enrichment Program", including outreach, recruitment, training, scheduling speakers and tours, and overall supervision;
  4. Coordinates planning and execution of the Department's quarterly "Directions for Corrections" community speakers' series, including securing event location and parking, communicating with stakeholders, and overall management of event logistics;
  5. Coordinates planning and execution of the Department's "Defensive Aids in Situations of Help" woman's self-defense training program, including securing event location, series scheduling, event organization, managing participant inquiries, materials distribution, and overall on-site coordination;
  6. Provides oversight and evaluation of employees participating in the Department's "Choice Program" which addresses bullying, peer pressure and other pressing issues within schools;
  7. Flexibility to attend evening and weekend meetings and events as needed;
  8. Schedules and coordinates the Sheriff at speaking engagements at community meetings and other events;
  9. Manages special projects as assigned, including clothing drives, toy drives, and other projects;
  10. Ability to work independently to meet various deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and organization;
  11. Ability to adapt quickly, responding efficiently and effectively to time-sensitive projects;
  12. Exercises thorough substantive knowledge of office policies procedures and operations of the Department and exercises knowledge of assigned office or division;
  13. Flexibility and ability to learn and perform new duties and skills as assigned; and
  14. Other duties and assignments as the Sheriff may request from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Work, Community Development or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred; demonstrable five or more years of direct experience in community engagement, outreach, or related fields is preferred; or a combination of education, experience and training;
  2. Ability to type and write required;
  3. Ability to perform duties with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality required;
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form required;
  5. Valid and renewable driver's license is preferred;
  6. Ability to work accurately and independently in a fast-paced environment;
  7. Ability to interact with employees and the public in a pleasant and discreet manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the organization, in other agencies, and in private industry; high levels of customer service, independence, leadership;
  8. Ability to demonstrate initiative and to work with co-workers and consultants; self-motivator, ability to meet project deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously is essential;
  9. Ability to complete moderate to complex level of qualitative and quantitative analyses; strong analytical and problem solving skills are required; attention to detail is crucial; need for creativity, flexibility and organizational skills;
  10. Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to learn and perform new duties and skills as assigned; and
  11. Thorough knowledge of Department policies and procedures is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  6. Knowledge of, compliance with, and enforcement of Department policies and procedures;
  7. Obedient to moderately complex oral and written orders;

  10. Deal calmly and effectively with stressful situations, including emergencies; and
  11. Exercise good judgment.
