Job Title: Senior Design Engineer

Job Summary: The Senior Design Engineer will independently manage new product development projects, mentor junior engineers, and oversee major strategic initiatives within the engineering team. This role requires expertise in design engineering, including reviewing customer drawings and specifications, conducting preliminary and critical design reviews, and ensuring product readiness. The ideal candidate will be proactive, design with cost-effectiveness and manufacturability in mind, and coordinate with various engineering disciplines and production teams to ensure timely project completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Projects: Oversee new product development from design review to final readiness, addressing all aspects of engineering.
  • Mentor Team: Guide and support less experienced engineers as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Manage Strategic Initiatives: Handle large-scale projects such as product transfers between facilities and major engineering process updates.
  • Customer Engagement: Communicate directly with customers to gather requirements, respond to requests, and provide project updates.
  • Project Management: Juggle multiple projects simultaneously while keeping them on schedule.
  • Coordinate Efforts: Collaborate with drafting teams, test labs, manufacturing, quality control, and planning departments as needed.
  • Qualification and Certification: Oversee product qualification and certification processes, and manage design reviews.
  • Support Production: Assist production teams with any quality or manufacturing issues that arise.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical resource for internal teams and customers.
  • Travel: Be prepared to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field; a Masters or PhD is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of design engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in the Aerospace industry. A strong track record of developing successful products is essential.
  • Preferred Knowledge: Experience with aircraft cable harnesses and sensors, as well as aerospace industry knowledge.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in solid modeling and analysis software; familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Communication: Excellent at both verbal and written communication; capable of making technical presentations.
  • Independence: Able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of analog and digital circuits; experience with electromagnetic/magnetic circuits and the aviation industry is a plus.
  • Lean and Mistake-Proofing: Knowledge of Lean principles and mistake-proofing techniques is beneficial.
  • Additional Skills: Master Cam experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • This role involves working in both office and manufacturing settings.

Compliance: Candidates must comply with US export regulations and ITAR 120.15 and EAR Part 772. Eligibility to work in the U.S. and obtain necessary government authorizations is required.
