Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Production Control Intern will work under the direction of the Sr. Director Manufacturing on production planning and production control for manufactured products. Will work cross-functionally with all areas including the Supply Chain, Demand Management, Manufacturing, Logistics Distribution and Finance teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General and Task Management

  • Study and map out the relationship amongst components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies both within an ERP environment to eventually translate a pegging tree relationship to a production planning environment
  • Evaluate exiting process to matchraw materials and production capacity to optimally meet demand and suggest improvement opportunities
  • Assist in scheduling production orders in accordance with the demand outlook from the SIOP (Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning) process
  • Gain knowledge about customer lead time projections that incorporate material, labor and freight constraints
  • Support the implement of an Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) package and create accompanying training and troubleshooting documentation
  • Scan for changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organization meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns
  • Research areas of opportunity for efficiencies and reduce costs where possible
  • Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Pursuing a masters degree in engineering or logistics and distribution (Industrial Engineering preferred)
  • Ability to mine data from several sources (ERP, BI reports etc.) to build actionable reporting in Excel or help the BI team create dashboards
  • Excellent Excel skills with proven experience delivering data-driven, valuable insights to executive stakeholders
  • Knowledge of production planning principles within High Mix Low Volume (HMLV) discrete manufacturing is highly desirable
  • Proficient computer skills particularly Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with an ERP system (MS Dynamics365 or similar) is preferred
  • Experience or familiarity with an APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling) package with automation and optimization software such as Planet Together, Aspen or Siemens OpCenter Planning and Scheduling is desirable


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of manufacturing KPIs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
