DESCRIPTION Utilize product specific quality and technical skills to develop complex suppliers and products to meet customer requirements. Develop strong partnerships with external supply base, supply chain teams, and engineering teams to achieve high quality standards. Supports cross-functional development of external supply base strategies and cross-functional supplier selection process for increasingly complex products. Apply statistical tools and techniques to influence decision making, leveraging understanding of data collection methods, key statistics, graphical and analytical methods to describe process performance, gain insights and drive improvement action. Provides manufacturing consultation to external suppliers in order to design a Right First Time manufacturing process to enable conformance to the engineering print, engineering standards, and customer specific requirements. Utilize engineering principals such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) tools to develop zero defect components within the external supply base. Apply knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles, as well as knowledge of measurement technology to design a measurement system that can consistently meet industry and customer requirements. Lead complex product and process-focused projects, utilizing Six-Sigma tools and techniques for process improvement. Resolve complex external supplier-related quality challenges by leading 7-step root cause analysis, developing corrective actions. Improve supplier performance by developing and executing an effective quality improvement strategy. Evaluate supplier’s product design, manufacturing design process, and product validation process to ensure supplier is capable of meeting reliability expectations. RESPONSIBILITIES - QUALIFICATIONS Skills Experience and Education: Positions require a Master’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Manufacturing, Mechanical, Quality or Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Manufacturing, Mechanical, Quality or Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer, or related position. Experience to include: Statistical tools and techniques; Manufacturing process design; Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP); Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) tools; Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing; Six-Sigma tools and techniques; 7-Step Root Cause Analysis; Supplier Product Reliability.
