Position Summary In the role of Non-Sterile Formulation Scientist at Empower, you will be at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation, playing a crucial part in our mission to produce quality, affordable medications. This dynamic position is essential in leading the development and optimization of non-sterile formulations, including tablets, capsules, solutions, troches, creams, and ointments. As a Formulation Scientist, you will apply your scientific and engineering expertise to develop and scale up complex dosage forms with minimal guidance. You will oversee the entire formulation process, from pre-formulation to process development, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are robust and scalable. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with various departments, including manufacturing, quality, engineering, and sales. Your role will also involve writing and reviewing master formulas, manufacturing procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and stability protocols, and overseeing Research and Development (R&D) studies conducted both in-house and through external laboratories. Duties and Responsibilities Leads development and optimization of non-sterile formulations (tablets, capsules, solutions, troches, creams, and ointments), ensuring product stability and quality meet industry standards. Develop and scale up formulations and manufacturing processes for complex dosage forms with minimal guidance, including pre-formulation, formulation, and process development. Develops manufacturing processes for R&D formulations ensuring the technical transfer is successful for large-scale batches. Proactively apply scientific or engineering expertise to develop solutions to complex technical, operational, and/or business problems which require ingenuity and creativity. Writes and reviews master formulas, manufacturing procedures, SOPs, stability protocols, reports, and product development reports. Executes all R&D studies through in-house and external laboratories. Coordinates closely with Sales to understand clients’ and/or industry requirements for specific products or product lines. Coordinates R&D production scheduling with Manufacturing. Works closely with leadership from different departments such as manufacturing, quality, and engineering to ensure development activities align with established company systems and long-term commercial-scale manufacturing requirements. Tracks all phases of R&D projects using project management tools. Assists recipe management system, Master Formulation Record, to ensure all recipes are detailed, updated, and executable. Coordinates and assists with new product training as needed. Resolves production formulation issues and provides on-the-floor oversight as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Proven experience in non- sterile product development, process optimization, and process improvement within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Experience developing drug products from concept through commercialization. Experience with 21 Code of Federal Regulation Part 210 & 211 and United States Pharmacopeia compliance required.
