Overview

Job Overview

Working under the direction of Interim Chief Philanthropy Officer, Director of Development supports the strategic growth of Gaudenzia's fundraising efforts and manages the department's operations. Primary responsibilities include: overseeing data management, reporting, and analysis to support fundraising goals; ensuring consistent and efficient donor services; achieving annual and long-term financial goals; and implementing strategic and coordinated pipeline growth for all giving areas. This role requires a commitment to the on-going expansion of an aspiring and successful fundraising program that is ambitious in approach and that adapts to changing trends in philanthropy. The highly-motivated individual in this position will be a leader within the department and will help grow a culture of philanthropy within the organization. Conduct and support all private sector fundraising activities and initiatives.

This position will require 25% travel to Gaudenzia treatment locations throughout the region.

Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with diverse internal & external stakeholder groups.
  • Write, edit, and submit grant proposals by the required deadline, with particular attention paid to ensuring completeness against grant instructions, grammar, and style. Increase philanthropic/foundation relationship building and related prospecting of private foundations. Specifically, someone knowledgeable of private foundations that align with our cause and can support engagement in identifying new funding opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bidder's conferences, draft proposal summaries for review by organizational leadership, and schedule and attend proposal planning meetings with relevant internal stakeholders, including but not limited to regional and/ or executive leadership, accounting, and philanthropy team members.
  • Support the development of goals, outcomes, and evaluation metrics by which the success of grant proposals will be measured.
  • Establish grant opportunities by county and region for programs by the required deadline. Make suggestions for foundation partnerships and business collaborations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, accounting, and philanthropy team members. Include key stakeholders in discussions regarding grant opportunities and community collaborative relations.
  • Maintain accurate repository and database of grants submitted and received on agency's SharePoint site.
  • Conduct follow-up with funding sources on award status, as needed.
  • Understand the history, programs, outcomes, and financial needs of the agency.
  • Perform public and private prospect research to identify opportunities that support or advance the agency's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Leverage existing agency data to establish a need and develop cases for support.
  • Participate in special external events benefiting Gaudenzia, as needed, to provide support and agency visibility.
  • Oversees gift & grant recording, acknowledgement, and reporting solutions that support excellent donor stewardship and all fundraising activity.
  • Oversees the information technology that supports fundraising efforts identifying needs and developing innovative solutions for donor-centered office management.
  • With the Database and Prospect Manager, creates and updates constituent management policies and procedures to ensure consistency across Gaudenzia's fundraising efforts and to promote best practices.
  • Serves as the manager and clearinghouse for development-related actions and tracking across the institution.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects and produce high quality work against a deadline
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with grants databases and prospect research tools
  • Knowledge of behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and program development, including ASAM levels of care and evidence-based practices for the treatment of SUD and co-occurring disorders
  • Knowledge of and experience with successful proposal development


Qualifications

Miniumum Requirements

Education/Experience: Master's Degree + 2 years' experience; or BA/BS or CAC + 3 years' experience; or AA/AS + 4 years' experience or HSD/GED + 5+ years' experience

Note: All experience must be in a health or human service agency, which includes one year of working with the chemically dependent, plus two years of supervisory experience.
