Position Mission:

This position will lead engineering tasks in new product development projects and procurement tenders. The responsibility of this position is to provide engineering leadership in development, evaluation, analysis, and/or product engineering functions on aftermarket automotive parts distributed by NAPA.

Responsibilities:

Product Evaluation
  • Lead product teardowns for should-cost modeling. Present findings and align within engineering peers on clean sheet should-cost models.
  • Lead product teardowns for competitive comparison and benchmarking in support for marketing collaterals.
  • Lead product analysis on product samples from different suppliers with the goal of managing risk for the business, customers and end-users and meeting customer requirements.
  • Lead development of testing requirements for products, working with Suppliers, Industry experts, outside consulting agencies, Testing labs, engineers within GPC and independent research.
  • Manage testing of products with Suppliers, third party agencies and internal labs.
  • Analyze and assimilate findings of testing into concise reports and present to cross-functional team members.
  • Make recommendations based on findings to inform product, sourcing and distribution strategy.
Product Development
  • Own and manage NAPA standards per Brand tiers in accordance with the Category strategy. Ensure correct engineering specifications that meet product features as defined by Product Manager.
  • Develop engineering requirements for new product introductions and oversee the process to ensure all engineering requirements have been met.
  • Accountable for successful supplier partnership to ensure on time execution of next products and programs.
  • Responsible for the onboarding of new product lines and data analysis of products.
Supplier and Product Quality
  • Assist in executing best in class Supplier and Product Quality program through data review and analysis.
  • Partner with Supplier Quality Manager to develop documentation requirements for product quality standards and escalation process.
  • Help Support Product Quality Metrics including delivering YOY improvements across defective rates and return $ and %.
  • Work with third parties and cross functional teams to compile quality information and audits.
Product Execution
  • Present at internal / customer meetings, lead role in core team as engineering leader.
  • Oversee assigned product line and identify opportunities for growth and market leadership.
  • Manage engineering tasks using project management practices, including assigning of tasks to Product Engineers, mentoring, motivating, and professional development.
  • Manage engineering lab setup with ensuring acquisition and installation of right equipment and compliance to safety and security.
Experience, Education, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or similar
  • 7-10+ years engineering experience
  • Experience in manufacturing and quality preferred, automotive experience a plus, but not required
  • Experience managing, leading, and cultivating a team
  • Understanding & knowledge of automotive systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience using various computer applications including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work across all internal departments to drive projects to on-time completion
  • Highly motivated individual that has a strong drive for results; communicates effectively both in written and verbal communication formats
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engineering services projects (scope, schedule, budget, equipment) simultaneously
  • Previous managerial experience a plus
  • Consumer centric thinking and close attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Product Development Process, Risk Management, Root Cause Corrective Action, and Quality Control Systems
