Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director of Tax to join our dynamic team at Spencer Spirit Holdings, Inc. As an Associate Director of Tax, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing all aspects of tax compliance and financial statement tax provision for our multi-state retail operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate tax initiatives in collaboration with external tax service providers, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance Management: Oversee and manage all aspects of tax compliance for our multi-state retail operations, including the timely preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns. Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Financial Statement Tax Provision: Lead the preparation and analysis of the financial statement tax provision, working closely with external tax service providers to ensure accuracy and completeness. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management regarding tax provision matters. Coordination with External Tax Service Providers: Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax service providers, coordinating tax compliance efforts and ensuring timely and accurate delivery of tax-related services. Collaborate with external partners to address any tax-related issues or inquiries. Tax Planning and Strategy: Assist in developing and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position and minimize tax liabilities. Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company and provide guidance on potential implications. Internal Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including finance, accounting, and legal teams, to provide guidance and support on tax-related matters. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment of tax initiatives with overall business objectives. Risk Management: Identify and assess potential tax risks and exposures associated with the company's operations. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate tax risks and ensure compliance with internal controls and procedures. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the tax department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (Masters in Taxation) preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in tax compliance and provision, preferably in a multi-state retail environment.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, with expertise in retail industry tax issues.
  • Experience managing relationships with external tax service providers and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax matters to senior management.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of tax professionals.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
