We are looking for a Clinical Pharmacy Manager ready to bring their expertise and enthusiasm to our vibrant team located in Columbia, Tennessee (South of Nashville). You will have the opportunity to lead a team of eight and manage a program that improves the quality of our pharmacy services while having the support and expertise of CompleteRxs clinical team as a resource. The Clinical Manager ensures our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive ongoing training, competency assessment, and performance improvement activities to improve the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients at the facility. The Clinical Manager is the primary interface between the Department of Pharmacy and hospital committees (medical staff, nursing, etc.) coordinating medication use policies and procedures. What You Will Do Assures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy: * Develops, enforces, and maintains policies and procedures that promote and enhance patient outcomes through safe, effective, cost-efficient, and appropriate medication therapy use. * Assists in the development and maintenance of a formulary approved by the medical staff. * Coordinates programs designed to minimize medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and medication misuse through improved reporting, analysis, and follow-up through hospital committees and departments involved in the medication use process. * Coordinates, facilitates, and promotes education, training, competency assessment, and performance improvement of pharmacists, technicians, and healthcare professionals in the medication use process. * Serves as principal advisor and/or member of hospital committees involved in medication use (Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Control, Laboratory/Pathology, etc.). * Coordinates policies and procedures concerning pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives in the hospital. * Coordinates and maintains appropriate high-quality and current drug information resources for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. * Displays personal initiative and advocacy of clinical pharmacy programs, planning, and services to foster and improve inter- and intra-professional communications with appropriate attention and management of existing facility mission, vision, and values. * Prepares appropriate reports and follow-up documentation to the Director of Clinical Services CompleteRx, Ltd., Director of Pharmacy, and facility. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department: * Supervises pharmacy personnel as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. * Assists with the development of job descriptions and performance standards relating to Clinical Pharmacy. * Assists in the evaluation and counseling of pharmacy staff members as assigned. * Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff. * Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines. * Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets. * Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. * Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Oversees and maintains pharmacy residency program in accordance with ASHP Accreditation Standard for Postgraduate Pharmacy Residence Programs (The Standard). * Serve as a role model for residents through professionalism and commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy. * Provides program oversight and continuous program improvement. * Recruit and select residents for the program. * Prepare, maintain, and disseminate residency program requirements and policies. * Maintain program structure, design, and conduct in accordance with The Standard. * Demonstrates contribution to pharmacy practice in accordance with The Standard. * Participate in drug policy and other designed committees. * Role model ongoing professional engagement in accordance with The Standard. * Identify, develop, and oversee preceptors. Integrates the department into the organizations primary functions: * Develop and implement a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization. * Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services. * Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization. * Participates in all committees/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. * Establishes productive collaborative relationships with physicians, other hospital staff, and within the community. Maintains competency required for current job title/position: * Maintains current pharmacist license. * Ensure applicable Continuing Education (CE) records and licensure are maintained and provided to the supervisor on a timely basis. * Sustains professional competency and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations. * Maintains professional knowledge and skills related to clinical pharmacy through participation in selected pharmacy organization(s). * Exercise skills as a team member in the management of medical emergencies. * Ensure that policies and procedures related to medication management are followed. * Document interventions, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors according to established policy and procedures. * Develops medication usage evaluations biannually or more frequently as deemed necessary by leadership. Collects and analyzes data and generates recommendations based on study results. Presents recommendations to appropriate providers and committees (e.g. P&T Committee). Works with other departments (e.g. nursing, lab, information technology) to implement approved changes to order sets, protocols, and policies in a timely fashion. * Able to use primary literature together with experience and judgment to assist other healthcare providers with medication-related issues. * Effectively communicates with patients, families, and health care providers. * Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. * Clinical or operational duties as instructed by leadership which may include but are not limited to: * Participation in interdisciplinary clinical patient care rounds on medical units (e.g. intensive care unit, antimicrobial stewardship/infectious disease, anticoagulation management, discharge rounds, chemotherapy, pain management, nutrition). * Reviews and verifies medication orders, and regularly reviews patient medication regimens for potential improvements. * Responsible for the appropriateness of a medication order, including disease and age-related factors. * Precepting graduate pharmacy student interns. * Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel. * Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members. * Coordinates and completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner. * Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs. * Answer the telephone promptly identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. * Oversee pharmacy technicians assisting with medication distribution functions. * Maintain accurate patient medication profiles. * Prepares and dispenses all medications using appropriate techniques according to accepted practice or established policies and procedures * Adheres to infection control protocols. * Develops pharmaceutical knowledge of hospital staff and students through digital communication, in-services, newsletters, continuing education programs, or other means as appropriate at least bi-annually or as directed by leadership. What You Will Need * Bachelor of Science or PharmD degree required. * Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Tennessee. * Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency and a minimum of 3 years of relevant pharmacy practice experience, or * Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residencies and a minimum of one year of relevant pharmacy practice experience, or * Has a minimum of 5 years of relevant pharmacy practice experience if they have not completed an ASHP-accredited residency. * Board certification is preferred in any BPS specialty. * Some pharmacy leadership or management experience is required; a minimum of 2 years is preferred. * Ability to travel to attend conferences, team meetings, etc. Travel is up to 5%.
